  • Uh-Oh, C8 TPW’s Are Sliding Backwards Already

    Has your TPW moved backwards?

UPDATE: Note please that as so many pushbacks are now being reported, not going to continuing up date with specifics. Suffice to say, there are now tens and tens of pushbacks, perhaps multiple hundreds.

We have already seen many reported reported. **** — but expected due to the strike. Also least we so think, though it could be that each of these two orders has a specific option for which a supplier has encountered a production quality issue.

Let’s hope these six specific orders do not not move additionally backwards later, nor any future “slidebacks” are noted by any others.

    1. From 12/2 to 2/3

    2. From 1/6 to 2/17 (two different orders)

    3. From 12/09 to 2/17 (two different orders)

    4. From 12/16 to 1/13 (two different orders).

Then there is an outlier which was reported to have been moved from December to March. I believe that there is something else going on with that order, so I am not including it in the numbered ones above.

Well this would be expected with such a long strike with no end even in sight...

gm should cancel c7 orders accepted and change over the plant now woth suppliers ...

just give the c7 buyers with orders on hold because of the strike a better equipped in inventory c7 model for the same price and then just change over the plant during the strike.

    its not rocket science here.

I’m at 3000 and hopefully I’ll get it by March. Fingers crossed the strike ends very soon. They are now countering offers. That’s a good sign. Hey GM forget about finishing those C7’s. 37,000 orders are more important don’t yah think ??

Not that simple, for if one were to walk into the plant right now, you would see, just as we always do, above us seven miles of transport carriers with C7 parts on them, and all along main floor’s secondary and primary assembly lines, you would see partially completed C7’s. On side-feeder lines, you would see a set of LBR doors, then black ones, then ELB ones, with those doors being in a line, perhaps 100 sets of them all lined up and ready to go onto upcoming cars. Same for all the rest of the body panels already painted: and the same for all the IP’s individually customized and also completed, for their upcoming install into specific car on the primary line. Lastly, what does GM does with not just these parts, but all of the C7’s unique powertrain parts already ordered, paid for and delivered to the plant, e.g., 8A’s specifically and uniquely built for the C7, C7 eLSD’s, differentials, half shafts, etc.

Also all sold cars are now part of signed, formal contracts, as is the Siller Foundation $2.65M pre-sold black last Z06 going to that terrific charity organization.

GM will continue to finish the last of the C7’s that have been ordered. According to one media, there are 600 left to make. If that number turns out to be correct, and the line would continue at the full overtime status as it did during the first two years of the C7, that is approximately one week of C7’s to finish. Even if other media estimates of about twice that many C7’s left to complete, that is still just two weeks to complete the C7 line and to deliver custom-ordered C7’s to their buyers — who always have been massively delivery time altered by the strike.

Would you know exactly what the builds are on them? Maybe something in common we might be able to figure out if more slide backwards.

I do not know their build specs. But if/as more get pushed back, we will learn. I think the chances of the postponed TPW’s are 99% due to the strike, but just wanted to point out a theoretical other possibility.

Thanks for the discussion on vehicles partially built sitting on the line...that could be a huge issue...parts inventory could be reassigned but half built cars would be a bigger issue...

so we just have to wait...

of course if gm knew this was coming....they should have completed all cars on the line and call it...finish whats there by hand and move on...

sorry to beat a dead horse but the suppliers changing over the line with equipment if allowed would be better time spent than just waiting for the UAW workers to return...

this is an annoying strike at a certain point everybodies losses are greater than they would gain from “winning” the negotiations...

i believe both sides have surpassed that point already...

the uaw lost 10 percent of their income for the year already...

how are the workers going to make that back in the new contract in less than 2 years?

rotten union leadership in my opinion not doing right by their members at this point.

John, where can we check to see if our TPW has been changed? Kerbeck has a list, but it hasn’t been updated since maybe Wednesday or Thursday.

Go to the Chevy build and price site, click on “Upcoming” (right hand side) and then when that opens on the right hand side you will periodically see a “chat” symbol — usually on the very bottom right. It will then allow you to click on the “new vehicle order status” (or something like that), and then you will “talk” with a specialist. Please report back the exact language they tell you. Thanks.

LOL the Lawyers might just might take some exception to doing this. Not Smart would put GM further in harms way financially.

Now if it goes on long enough to impact my Z06! That is another story!!!!

You are right John. Gellie, from GMs chat said my TPW is Feb 17, 2020. Originally on Kerbecks website it was Jan 6, 2020. Let’s get this strike settled.....

My TPW is still 12/16/19/status 3000. Kerbeck was very careful on my order and asked me not to include and LPO items to ensure there wouldn’t be any hold ups if this scenario happened. They had me take off the charger, top storage cover and something else I can’t think of right now. Hopefully the strike ends this coming week! We will still have to wait a month for the mandatory QC hold, maybe they can pump out just customer orders and get this C8 train moving. I really want my car ASAP...First time in 20 years I am Corvette-less. Joansen to drive my new baby, empty spot in my garage begging for a mid engine C8!

Seems odd to me that 3 weeks of strike has pushed an order back 2 full months. I think John is on to something when he suggests some option on that car has become constrained for some reason. Especially since other early builds haven't (yet, at least) been pushed back.

Well not really. Who knows how accurate this information is without the UAW folks there for input information. Additionally, this may be an assignment of a date not based on anything factual. I know everyone is just grasping at anything right now but be suspect very suspect of information regarding ANY production activity.
