Why would a dealer not disclose the allocation numbers to their customers

  • #2
If I am to believe what my dealer told me on Saturday, the reason is they're not being specific with their allocations is they still don't know what they will be. That's supposed to be announced on September 12th.

It may be a good thing that dealers at this point are not disclosing their allocations. Especially the smaller dealers as they really do not know what their allocations are. My local dealer, on the other hand is not talking to anybody about anything . I know what they are going to do. As they get a car here and there they will mark up above sticker. They may be selling a few to established customers. Over the years giving them first opportunity for my business found it impossible to deal with them. BUT, beware as I am finding a lot of the smaller dealers are not being truthful on allotments and claiming high impossible numbers based on their 2018 sales. Found one dealer in my state that has 3.5 times deposits as cars they sold in 2018 and is still taking deposits. At this point with a smaller dealer you most likely will not get a 2020. BUT, do not deposit with them at this point for a 2021. Your best bet is to go to one of the larger dealers for 2020. MacMulkin, I do believe has cars left and do a courtesy delivery to a dealer near you.

Thank you Zora. It is one of the big 3 dealers on the east coast.

I don’t think the above information is true. Dealers should all know their 3 month allotment by now, the only thing that changes in September is they find out how MUCH of their 3 month allotment will be in the September consensus.

For example, dealers knows they have 30 cars allotted the first 3 months. September 12th rolls around and GM says you have 8 cars this month that we will give you. That means the remaining 2 months they have the remaining 22 cars they were allotted.

Id be weary of any dealer that won’t tell or show you their allotment number

The 3 dealers I contacted all know their allocations in the Atlanta area. One is #12 and #15 and the 3rd isn’t listed for 2018 sales ranking. So they all must know.

I’m sorry, I should clarify something. It’s not that they don’t know, he told my husband this morning that Mr Kerbeck does not want to reveal the allocation numbers at this time.

My dealer has 237 in the first 3 months. MSRP (to me at least). Larger dealer.

When I called Kerbeck they declined to make the info available, but said they had 1000 on the list.. Called MacMulkin's and they were very forthcoming about their 1172 allocations. Got #306 from them.

You can be certain that Kerbeck has more allocations than any other dealer. They have been the world's largest Corvette dealer every year in this century.

My smaller (and I believe very honest) dealer told me a few days after the reveal that their allocation is "5 now and 15 later". I got so excited I failed to ask what "now" and "later" meant. Supposed to meet with them sometime this week to get my order ready to go. They already put the order in the computer so I guess I'm at 1100 (which doesn't mean anything) but I am changing a few items in my build.

For all fellow Corvette lovers looming to purchase a simple tip. To get an idea of how manh 2020's a dealer will get simply find out how many they sold last year and you will get a good idea how many cars they will have to sell. Remember lists dont mean much ONLY their allocation does!
