Clarifying Accessory Labor Install Costs
Since this question has twice arisen, I just talked with Mike Furman to confirm the following for C8 GM Accessories and their potential install costs, e.g., sometimes we pay and sometimes we do not for accessories to be installed on our new Corvettes.
Let take a specific accessory, 5VM, Visible Carbon Ground Effects (which we believe is both the visible CF fiber splitter and vis CF extended rocker) compared to its counterpart, the “believed to be not yet order-able,” carbon flash painted over carbon fiber ground effects kit, 5W8. If both of these current assumptions were later confirmed, and I were to order 5VM as part of my order, it would be installed during my PDI (at no install cost to me), but the painted version 5W8, would constrain (prevent) my order from going through, or I could order it later, separate from my initial order, and then additionally pay my service department for its install (or install it myself, or have my body shop install it).

- If an accessory is available at the time you purchase your car, and you order your car with it, that part number/item will be printed on your Monroney Window sticker, and your dealership will install it during your PDI at no extra cost, e.g., GM pays your dealer for its install as part of their reimbursing the dealer for the PDI. This is true even if a part is extra large requiring GM to separately ship it to your dealer.
- If your desired accessory is however constrained, and you choose to not hold up your order but to later purchase that same accessory from your dealer’s parts counter, you would need to pay both its price andalso its install cost (unless you and your dealer cut some side deal advantageous to you; however, the latter does not happen often as your dealer’s service department is performing work that they are not being compensated for).
- If you are doing courtesy delivery, item # 1 still applies, but instead GM would ship our accessory not to the dealer your bought your car from, but to your “ship to,” courtesy delivery dealer.
