  • Buyer's Anxiety

Come next Thursday, Aug 15, I anticipate going to my local Chevy store and ordering a C8. However, that will also be the day the prices of options will first be available. Somehow, I see myself being shocked by the cost of those add-on, and in need of time to think this all through. On top of that bit of anxiety, I expect the dealer to heap this and that onto the invoice. I hate this part of car buying, especially when the car is in demand. Anyone else share my paranoia?

Yeah I just made a thread somewhat similar to this below

    https://www.midenginecorvetteforum.c...izing-purchase

I may have had other reasons why, but I think it's all attributed to the same ANXIETY lol ... In all I don't think I will be shocked by the pricing but I think it may be more than I was wishfully hoping....So then it's either just do it, strip the vehicle, or hold off.

I think I have been preparing myself mentally for almost a year now and I’ve pretty much decided I am all in no matter what. Wife is totally onboard as well. I’ve also been eating allot more ramen noodle too LOL.

I did some conservative pricing on all my options based loosely on C7 pricing wherever applicable, padded a bit and I’m up to $84,600ish. If most are going for middle of the road Z51 and 2LT plus a handful of options the price of admission goes up quickly, so prepare yourself! Also many are not realizing that items like the “non-accessory” wheels could still cost you $5-600 just for the black open spoke wheel. Likewise a color like your basic Torch Red could also be an additional $600 charge.

      EDIT—-
Sorry I didn’t mean to confuse anyone with my color upcharge comment. I was more trying to illustrate that you may have had your heart set on a premium color and not realizing till you get pricing that's actually almost a 1K upcharge.

I don't recall Torch Red EVER being a premium $$$ color up charge.

Although this experience is quite new to me, I at least have a benchmark for what I'm willing to pay. Just before the C8 was announced, I was quite prepared to buy a clean '67 coupe driver, and pay something north of $80K. So, how bad could this really be?

My dealer has my signature on a contract in a drawer. I'm getting the base model with no options, I'll be paying for the car, and I'm assuming it's going to be $59,999.99. I'm paying a delivery fee and a document fee. If there are any big surprises, the dealer will call me, otherwise he will put the order in first thing in the morning on the 15th, and try to get me a 2020.

Will, I am glad you are excited, glad your dealer and you are working extremely well together! Those are very important and necessary things for you to later get your C8.

Just want you to know Will that nothing new is happening on August 15th regarding order placement — not for your dealer, not for a single dealer in America.

We do hope the price is less than $59,999.99 so you are even more excited (as we all would be).

True every dealer could have entered an order as far back July 24th at 1100 status, or he/she could for the first time enter it and get it to 1100 status on August 15th — but in every case it will not go beyond that 1100 status before the first consensus , somethhing which we are still estimating is six weeks away. Not one C8 will become status 2000 until the Saturday after the first consensus is opened (all consensus are opened on a Thursday), and also only will an order move from 1100 to 2000 status if/when GM has offered your dealer an allocation for a non-constrained Corvette and your dealer has selected you to receive that GM offered allocation.

              Excellent thread here.

Agreed. One should look at this C7 page to see which colors GM did not charge or did charge more for, for the 2019’s. I expect all to be identical except we do not yet know about the three new colors. [Of course, no Corvette Racing Yellow for 2020.]

If your dealer is heaping a bunch of extra charges on the invoice, beyond destination and a reasonable doc fee, take your deposit back and call a forum dealer.

I would have anxiety over any high price ticket non-essential purchase without some limitation of what the final bottom line price would be.

I would walk from any deal where the dealer fees are beyond $300 documentation fee...

i dont need the car so bad.

                      i can always wait...

if they dont want my money than so long.

Just tell the dealer who might try some shenanigans when and if they do... Tell them to double check because you will make sure everybody knows what dealer and what the dealer did and to never to do business with ...them again.. youll make it your lifes business...

one time many decades ago..I had a girlfriend who was getting added charges etc and couldnt get her deposit back. I stopped in and took care of the situation. She got her money back that night,

you dont have to worry. Better yet hopefully you used a forum vendor. These guys are great.

My advice ..just use a forum vendor. The internet forum dealers cultivate their reputation quite seriously....

                      they are straight shooters...

the internet is too powerful a tool for both consumers and the dealers

dont be anxious...worst case scenerio youll just get your money back and you will find an honest dealer who just charges destination fees , tax, tags and a documentation fee of $300 .

OK, let's estimate what the most common option packages will cost, based on where GM went with the Base model costs. Base 2020 C8 / Base C7 = 60/57 ~1.053. Round that up to 1.06 for good measure.

                          2019 C7 2LT Pricing = $4455, 2020 C8 2LT ~ $ 4725,
                          2019 C7 Z51 Pricing = $ 5000, 2020 C8 Z51 ~$5300,
                          2019 C7 MRC (FE4) Pricing = $1800, 2020 C8 MRC (FE4) ~$1925,
                          2019 C7 Premium Wheels Pricing = $2000, 2020 C8 ~ $2125.
                          2019 C7 Premium Color = $995, 2020 C8 ~ $1050.

No more anxiety ! If you want, you can get a nicely equipped Z51 for about $72,000, and according to Ed Piatek and Doug Fehan, it will outperform a 2019 C7 Z06 for a lot less money. What's not to like ??
