  • C8 almost sold out for 2020!

Update: This thread is closed due to a subsequent press release from GM saying, sales are going fantastically, at a record pace, but (absolutely wishing the original statement had not been made). THEREFORE THREAD CLOSED!

Got an email from my dealer(top 10 dealer) and all of his allocations are spoken for now. If it isn't sold out already then it soon will be.

Originally posted by AutoBlog, their quoting Michael Simcoe, Head of GM Design
Michael Simcoe, GM design chief, said as much at the Concours d’Elegance of America, as a gleaming C8 sat on the lawn.

“I think the orders have already hit the first year of production numbers,” Simcoe said when addressing the attentive, large crowd at the golf course. We pulled him aside afterwards, and asked Simcoe to elaborate. Turns out, the C8 is extremely close to being sold out for the 2020 model year, but it hasn’t officially hit the mark yet. “It’s nearly sold out. It’s so close that it’s bound to be sold out soon,” Simcoe told us.

How much do you want to bet that this will be a record year for Corvette sales?

I'm not sure if this is valid. Maybe someone will talk to the birdies. With GM doubling their production with a second shift and all of the people dropping out for whatever reason something doesn't sound right. I spoke with Mike the other day and was told about 40% have dropped off the list already.

I don't believe the 2020 model year will be a volume record unless they extend it several months. The typical model year starts in early August. C8 'customer cars' most likely won't start leaving the factory until December. We'll see where that goes....
2020 HTC Torch Red with lots of goodies. Built in September. Museum Delivered in October......

If my dealer is awaiting pricing Aug 15 and starts the ordering process around that time, does this mean I may be out of luck for 2020 model even though GM said the dealer had allocation? I've read John's earlier post, but Im confused, how can an order go in without pricing yet?

All “orders” entered now only go to status 1,100 and truly mean nothing. Once an allocation is awarded to a dealer when the first consensus starts (over six weeks away), only orders which are then matched up with an offered one given to the dealer by GM at that point in time, can result in a C8 being produced. Equally important, an order entered before that first consensus has no higher priority than one placed the first day of the first consensus. Not to worry.

When did GM tell you they had allocation? I remember a few posts stating GM was going to exceed the dealers allocation because of acquiring a second shift and hiring more people. Are you on a dealers list? How long ago?

Yes, Frenzy36, GM told my dealer last Thursday that they have 3 allocations for the first batch of cars (I'm assuming that's all they'll get for the coming year, not sure if that's correct), but I'm number 3. I've paid a deposit and am now waiting to place my order. Hopefully that answers your question. Forgive me, I'm new at this forum stuff !

Something doesn't sound right. Why would you think they would only get 3 cars for the whole year? Did you read the post above from John? If not I suggest you check out those links.

Frenzy36, Yes I've read/re-read John's posts you are talking about. I guess I shouldn't have said/assumed that the dealership may only have X number of allocations for this coming year. I may be putting words in their mouth which I shouldn't have. They're a local dealership which I ordered & purchased my 2014 & 2017 Grand Sport from. I have trust in them that they're not steering me wrong, since I know them. All I presently know is that I've placed a deposit and was told I will be getting a C8 when they are built & ship, probably between Jan-March I guess. I'll wait & see. I'm trying to practice patience !!

But there must be a lot of people like me, who have never owned a Corvette but recognize this as a great opportunity and plunk their money down, people unaware of this forum.

I think you don't need to be an expert or GM spokesman to be sure that the C8 will sell really well and who really wants one of the first C8s must place their order on bank opening.

The hype is really strong but also there will be a lof of people who now claim they want one (especially on social media) but drop out as soon as they realize they are not in the market of $60k+ cars.

Sounds like a Hurry up and place your reservation story...

a full first years production sold out before pricing is even announced is something I doubt...

30 or 40k reservation place holders to get pricing @ugust 15 th sounds correct...but so e people get the information and roll off the list

a 40 percent drop off makes sense even still half of first year priduction with a double shift sold out is impressive.
