  • Dealers hoarding C8 Corvettes, but they will regret it in the end though!

Now let me start buy saying, I paid/paying MSRP for my 2023 Corvette C8 (At 3000 status currently) Cash.

However, there are SO many dealers right now with C8s on the lot where I live, or close to me...and they will NOT sell at MSRP. I have seen lot of people in this forum state they are on a list to pay MSRP, and I'm curious where you are located. Tons of people have stated that they have been waiting for years, or a very long time. So I see that is because they wanted to wait to pay MSRP. Correct? Or they just had a long wait to get one, because of allocations at that particular dealer. The dealer where I got mine, sells about 3 to 7 per months looks like, and last month had 10 people waiting for an allocation slot. I was number one on that list. I find it strange, if not horrible that they are allowed to do this. Before I started my journey/decision to get mine, I was shocked at the pricing people were paying, because they didn't fight or didn't want to wait on their car. You do what you will, but we control the market in reality. But so many people jump out there, and pay the 10k to 100k over the sticker price, it's sad. I paid MSRP, but also got some extra off for being a Vet.

How much did you pay? Did you pay MSRP? Months back I spoke with GM about this, and I got the answer most of you got when you first questioned this more than likely. They told me I don't have to pay above sticker, but they can not stop the dealer from charging over.

The strange part is, GM will drop your warranty on a Z06 if you sell it within a year. But the cars are being sold over the sticker price. Not to mention, they are already making money from it not being sold at invoice. Which is much lower than sticker price. Now that is bad business...but what can you do? I'm just happy not everyone is paying above sticker, and the dealers will learn a hard lesson when it comes time to move those cars!

    Hello,

I have bought 5 Corvettes from my dealer, all at MSRP or less, based on trade in values. Also,
I have bought 6 or 7 other vehicles from the same dealer, and most from the same salesman.

I currently have a 2023 C8 Red Mist Coupe with just 600 miles on it. My wait time to purchase
was 24 hours, but that is another story which I won't go into in this response.

FYI, I am number 5 on my dealership's wait list to order an E-ray.

My best advice is to shop around with reputable dealers...not all are trying to screw you. I recall
when MSRP was just a factory number from which every dealership expected negotiations for
    a lower price.

    Bob

      Just to clarify,

GM does not cancel your warranty on a Z06 if you sell within a year. They did initially announce the year, but revised that down to 6 months prior to delivering any of the Z's.

23RedMist... great color, nice ride ! I was lucky; paid MSRP $163,175.00 (then add taxes, warranty, etc.). I waited over 3.5 years as first on a List for my Red Mist C8Z HTC 3LZ Naturally dipped CF visible wheels, Ceramics, Aero, etc.
But like I said, I was fortunate due in large part to Hendrick Chevrolet, their word, and their stellar reputation. However, I do not blame buyers for paying ADM. Everyone has their reasons for paying an upcharge, and in my opinion protecting my ability to buy at MSRP isn't one of them.

I paid $1000 less than MSRP....58.9 for a new 1LT in 2019 with no options.....in Seattle....it took 16 months to get a 2021 but I don't think that had anything to do with what I paid.....there was simply a limited supply because of the Pandemic, the Strike and the Supply Chain.... I did not wait a single minute as I had other things to do...

I do not believe anyone is hoarding C8 Stingrays as there are dozens if not hundreds of them for resale at reasonable prices....more than 100,000 have been produced...

I would never buy a new car if there were resales available for immediate delivery at reasonable prices....I think they are selling on Bring a Trailer for less that what they may have cost...

Believe me, they are not willing to sell here if you do not pay over. I can it hoarding so to speak, because TONS are on the lot NEW, but their greed qo t let them part with them. Not all dealers, but there are several here doing this. The ones that don't do it, don't have them sitting long at all. They come in, they sell.

We all need to get over it.... We have a free market where you can price anything you are selling for whatever you want. If someone buy it, that is the market value at that point in time for that specific offering. If it doesn't sell for what you're asking then you have a number of options including lowering the price.

What's wrong with that??? How do you want to change the process??? It's not a 'life or death' commodity after all. It's just a car.
2020 HTC Torch Red with lots of goodies. Built in September. Museum Delivered in October......

While some dealers are greedy and crooks in my area the dealer I bought from in Sikeston MO sells for MSRP. When asking the sales manager his comment was "we don't do that".

I got a kick out of a dealer near Chicago that would not quote a price via email he wanted me to phone him to discuss "pricing options" I told him to keep the car and moved on.

There are just too many dealers that are honest and sell for MSRP to buy a car for more. If you can't find an honest dealer in your area call MacMulkin and have a museum delivery (wish I had) or a courtesy delivery to your area.
