  • Activated On-Star to track shipment of the C8

I had my dealer turn on my On-Star on a car that was made a few weeks ago to see if it already was in transit. The car's still at the factory. I put $$$ down, so he was pretty sure I was a buyer that was not going to bail, and had no problem activating the On-Star, and it worked! Now I can track the Minnesota deliveries! Pretty cool!

i did that for my C7. However one caveat I learned is that OnStar to prevent draining your battery, will stop sending locations when you inquire about at the 48 hours of “no movement.” So while mine traveled for 10 days by train, especially as the AutoRackcars are steel, I could not use it to track its location as it crossed the country. However at the end, I was able to catch its location and to actually meet it at my dealership.

I did the same and located my car at the train yard just after it was unloaded. Then tracked it on the road as it was being delivered to the dealer. Great if your dealer will do it, but you have to contact On-Star to activate connected services before the location becomes functional.

I’m confused now. My dealer did the same thing for me a couple days after my car was built in July. Ended up, I couldn’t get location data until the “blue button” was pushed when my car arrived at dealership 2 weeks later. How does it work for some and not for others ? I can’t remember the title to the thread, but this was discussed at length by many members. It’s not a concern of mine now, as I have my car. But I’d imagine many others want to know ........ Can you or can’t you track car from BGA to dealership ?

I used the app to track my car, it sat at Bowling Green forever and then one day I checked it was already in California. Once they ship, it goes like lightning.

Did your dealer enable it for you?

Yse it was enabled at the dealer - he was surprised it worked - car's still sitting at the factory (almost two weeks now).

Hmm. I gotta figure out how to get mine to do that.

At 4:00 today On-Star showed the car at the factory, but checking again, I noted it jumped to the expressway - stopped for the evening in Shepherdsville!

What's weird is that you have to check the location two or three times. Often the first time is still shows in Bowling green - then after checking again (or again) it shows it on the road.
