  • Hi from the UK

Hi, im Mark from Leicester in the UK and have a build slot deposit down for one of the first C8's that are supposedly coming to the UK in RHD in Q1 2021.
Have previously owned a number of German, British and Japanese performance cars but always wanted a Corvette after driving one in Miami in the 80's but with them not being available here in RHD it has always been a showstopper for me until now.
My best friend has also got his deposit down, as our C8's will be birthday presents to ourselves as we are both 55 in 2021!
We intend to fly over and do a factory tour in May 2020 and see all the colors/specs hopefully "in the flesh" before we have to spec our build, probably flying to JFK then hiring something (maybe even a C8) and driving to the factory and racetrack so any advice on this would be great and places to visit on the way would be great.

Hi Mark, Congratulations on getting an early import number. If your flying into to NY and driving west you might check SCCA Ohio Region to see if there are any races at Mid-Ohio. They're club races, but fun to watch. I once rented a car in London and drove to Snetterton for a club race. Fun trip but scary roundabouts being on the wrong side of the road!

Hi, thanks for the reply, that sounds a good idea, i have just been looking at hiring a C7 Vert for a week picking up from JFK but not having much look at the moment so will spend more time on it later, just had a thought that we also need to look into the weather in the different states as well as it might need taking into consideration.

You could fly into Boston and visit MacMulkin, who always has a great inventory. Or, alternatively, into Washington DC to visit Mike Furman at Criswell, or Philadelphia to visit Kerbeck near Atlantic City.

No big Corvette dealers in the NY City area.

Floopsy, thanks for joining us and great plans you and your friend have. How nice that GM is finally going to build a RHD Corvette! There are some great driving roads between JFK an Bowling Green. If gorgeous scenery you want at 45 MPH, the Blue Ridge Parkway is spectacular. OR any of the backgrounds, even the interstate in West Virginia. If you have a full year between landing at JFK and getting to BG, you will cover a small percentage of them. If your plans are alterable to include the NCM Bash in late April, the top members of the Corvette team will be there -- as will many of us. The schedule is not yet out but it is such a fun Corvette time that we drive from Oregon to BG every single April for the event.

When you get here, if you give fellow members advance notice of where and when, I am sure some would love to do some meet ups with you and your friend along the way to Bowling Green.

          Welcome to MECF!

Mark, welcome to the forum and congrats on getting one of the first RHD C8's going to the UK.

Flying into the East Coast in May, you should have no problems with the weather for a road trip out to Bowling Green. Temps are pretty moderate in May. Hertz was renting Z06 C7's so you may want to look into them if they are still doing this at the time you come over.

Great welcome and reply's thank you all, spoke to the UK dealer today and we will get more info in the spring when Corvette are possibly doing a European launch at one of the big car shows, it looks like we will only get the option to order LT2 or LT3, with an estimate a base LT2 will be around £85,000 ($103,000) that is including the 20% vat we have to pay, which is £17,000............its a bit disappointing but not a showstopper at this moment but lets see what happens with exchange rates and trade deals over the next year.

Welcome mate! (I'm so very jealous of British slang, it's bloody amazing that you can call someone a wanker and no one bats an eye, as one example). I bet you're excited to have get a RHD C8. And ouch on 20% VAT! Why so much? Import/export taxes are a pain sometimes. Hopefully you plan on driving it to Goodwood in 2020 (That on my auto bucket list). It might even warrant taking a little trip across to the Chunnel to visit the Nordschleife.

Hi P-Tree, no chance at Goodwood in 2020 as no RHD customer cars im told into UK until Q1 2021 at the earliest unfortunately, but will try hard after delivery. Been there many times over the years and its a great event, im sure a C8 will make a run up the hill next year.

I did read somewhere that GM will be taking RHD orders as soon as mid year 2020 for 2021 deliveries so deliveries MAY start over there late fall/ December. I love a country where they measure beer by the pints. Here when you order a draft you may get, well whatever. Welcome, and you will have a great time on your Journey through this country. Who knows Hertz may have some C8s for you to rent.
