  • Hello from central Illinois

I'm just an old car guy, 59 and still act like a child (at least according to my wife). I have my deposit placed and am on the list at my dealer. I have owned and tried a lot of cars over the years. Never been a brand loyal type, like to experience a little bit of everything. I've owned a couple Corvettes, a couple Porsches, an AMG Mercedes and more that don't make much of a memory. Quite honestly, I have never been so excited about a new car in my life. If you step back and look at all mid engine cars with this performance level, you have to spend an additional $100k. To have this car coming feels more like a dream than reality. My current car of the past five years is a 2006 Ford Mustang GT that currently has 9,600 miles. I have a company car, so anything I buy doesn't get a lot of miles. Phil

Hey Phil1098, Welcome to one of the best Forums with one of the best cars. I'm from Countryside originally, so am familiar with Illinois. There is soo much info on this site now should keep you busy till you get your turn on delivery. Although none of us really knows how long exactly we're all figuring about 6 months they will start.(Hopefully sooner). Welcome and use the search option for anything specific and all the great people here will be happy to answer if you may not find what your looking for.

Welcome Phil1098. Glad you joined us. Your C8 excitement is echoed by most of us here.

BTW, at 59 you are a young man, in fact your age is two years less than the current average age of a buyer of a new Corvette. We range here from young up to mid 80’s.

A story about my best day in the car business. Back in the fall of 1996 Uftring Chevrolet (where I worked and sold Corvettes) was included in invite to the top Corvette selling dealer launch program in Phoenix. The dealer owner and myself flew out and NO ONE had ever seen a C5, it was before the internet was really rolling. We went to Firebird International Raceway for the program. We actually spotted spy cameras with two foot lenses in the bed of a truck outside the track. On site for our driving experience as passenger seat instructors were Randy Pobst, John Morton (24 Hours of LeMans Porsche 962 driver), Johnny O'Connell and several others. We got to go out with manual transmission cars and in my two sessions I chose to have Randy Pobst and John Morton ride with me. They were supposed to keep you in check and give pointers. John Morton and I were going down the back straight as hard as it would go, when I braked for the corner I heel toed it and he turned his head and said "um, nobody I've been with has done that, you're good to go" He just sat there the rest of the session with a grin on his face as we drifted out of corners and had a blast. I still smile when I remember that day.
