  • C8 Door Mirror Design Patent

    Thanks to Jeremy Welborn for finding this C8 door mirror patent. He has found more patents than all others combined (outside of GM and the USPTO). Here are the rest of the total potnetial and actual C8 patents identified by all.

    Interesting that many of us thought that patents were, and maybe they were decades ago, some major scientific breakthrough, and yet even in the patent application filed itself, it call itself “The ornamental design for a door mirror.” No mention of its uniqueness is even included, nor required to have become a granted patent. Interesting how things have changed.

    So not a scientific breakthroughs, but nevertheless It is very attractive and functional — including for the first time on a Corvette, having internal flashing turn signal lights.

    Here is the full patent application (minus one page which is mere a reciting of background numbers/references).

    Thanks again Jag!

    Source = USPTO (with thanks)!

    Design patents are just to keep someone else from too closely copying the design. Very different from a patent on an invention. Really more akin to a copyright than a regular patent, but since copyrights only apply to published works like text and music, you can't copyright a design.
