  • Any photos of c8 z51 on stock rims?

with the pricing of a grand for the standard wheels painted carbon flash costing not $500 but a grand I have decided to just get the stock silver rims and either have them painted all black locally...or just buy a set of takeoffs like I usually do when prepare for winter daily driving with a set of snow tires as the season approaches for the winter of 2020...

usually costs me about 700 for the take off wheels and instead of a grand i get a second set of rims...for my winter tires...

even if it costs me a grand...i still get a set of winter rims...fir my winter tires blah blah blah..

meanwhile I have not seen the stock wheels in anything other than the visualizer and quite honestly anything I see in the visualizer really looks horrible.

i dont know exactly what the issue is..if its because its computer generated? Or if its because there is no backround...or if the stk wheels just look like ****..

so any photos of a stock c8 with stock rims would be helpful...

so far i see the trident wheels and the black polished lip wheels in real photos but no stock rims

preferably in torch red z51 but Ill take anything at this point just to get an idea.

i was one of those guys in atlantic city where the prodict specialist said these black rims with polished lip were a standard choice but as he is human...he misspoke. No big deal...

i just didnt look until the pricing came out the 15 th.

im not paying a grand for the color black...

just doesnt seem prudent considering i eventually will need to sets of rims anyway

I think there were a few with stock rims on that 6 or 7 car caravan on the west coast....believe it was on black and shadow grey though ... Deff no red because ive been looking for that too and on rapid blue ... Gonna go same route as you ... By the way what part of town are you that you have a powdercoat shop actually take the wheels off for you and deliver them back while leaving it on jacks ... Thats a pretty awesome service

I have the business card downstairs.....alloy wheels repair and they primarily do auto dealers or repair shops...i didnt ask about powdercoating ...and im not sure I care ..(heat cycles in powdercoating might be an issue in tinsel strength etc too, just my uninformed consideration. If powdercoating is not available then black paint and clearcoat is fine too..(who knows maybe the stick silver wheels are nice? I havent seen them yet, im going out to carlisle thursday for a quick look in person to decide what color car, and maybe options and wheels etc..

i found this wheel repair shop a few years ago...there actual service is to businesses not retail customers....i managed to get friends with the manager and workers etc,,,with my sparkling personality..l(wallet or smile who knows ?) lets see if they even remember me...usually people do over the years)

they couldnt get my c6 gumbys round enough after a few tries so we became friends at that point. (Sometimes the potholes just do a bend that cant be repaired...so replacement is the smarter play and I totally get that) the shop was very accommodating as they tried more than once...even with the awesome equipment they had.. i enjoyed the effort and the process...anyways

im anticipating they will deliver the same service to me as they do local businesses...jack up, pick up and delivery...

i tend to tip well for good service,..and for some reason people often times remember if its the same employees etc.which can over a period of years be an issue but not insurmountable,

if i need to lift and jack myself its not a big deal yet I seem to believe they will do what I ask of them..

I prefer professionals do the job if offering the service, I'm not really thrilled about having my car on jacks in the two car garage as my son is 24 special needs and sometimes Murphy's law can just bite me in the @$$. Better to error on the side of caution...

never a bad thing like that happened but I dont usually have my car up in four jacks and not over a span of more than a few hours tops.

if i can get a second set of oem rims already in black off the takeoff sites craigslist or forums ill go tjat route.

also a few vendors do tend to take in trade in oem rims in silver and paint them black and send them back out with a refundable core charge. I remember that was a business a few years back on the forums.

i personally think an oem surcharge for color at $500 is appropriate...$1000 dollars is a blow me price..

I'm sure the polished lip is extra but after having all black shinney rims ....i found that the “oh **** I tapped the curve “repair with all black is a snap by myself and even though in photos the wheels get lost in the wheel wells...

in person its really slick looking and I get a ton of compliments.. Click image for larger version Name:	6D383E57-3A3A-413F-9D5F-AA73D62D21D9.jpeg Views:	0 Size:	1.85 MB ID:	61019

One member here mention that spray vinyl in cans that comes off (peal-able) until je decided what wheels he eventually likes...

not everyone is in love with the tuck in inside the fenders ie stock offset or the rim spokes themselves while in black that all fades..

i cant tell the finish of the stock rims..if its metallic or sparkle like that's cool...if its a cheap cast dull like finish..then thats got to get changed out in time...thats why id like to see the stock rims if I could...

might just be easier to over spend for the $1000 carbon black rims with polisjed lip...but that polished lip can be a pain...for $500 i didnt care...for a grand Im like maybe all black in a second set is a smarter play.

if i pick up a set for five hundred and then have it shipped over to that shop or I drop them off...i seem to remember 100 or 150 a rim in tje ovens is not unheard off since no damage repair is required.

Correct me if I’m wrong but won’t it cost $1000 to paint those rims black if done correctly. ?

I have used plastidip before a set of winter wheels. I figured why go crazy on wheels that would always be covered in salt. I think they looked alright and the plasti-dip held up well over the few years I had the car.

It takes minimal effort, it is cheap, and a great way to try put different colors before having your wheels painted or powdercoated.

I dont know yet but I dont think so...

im a little wary of a polished lip..in everyday use...

i invariably tap a curb parallel parking and the polished lip is a pain in the butt.

for $500 i was just going to buy the factory rims and seek out a vendor to make me those rim protectors in gloss black to install to protect the polisjed lip...but at a grand i think i can get a second set of rims (for snow tires anyway) and not have to deal with finding a vendor for wide enough rim protectors and I have heard they might fly off..lol

really im just biding my time. Last night i was thinking oh spend the $1000 for the black rims and stop wasting time...lol

ill roll out to carlise thursday morning and hopefull see the various wheels in oerson.

rumor is 6 or 8 cars are going to be there...ill know in two minutes whether the silver rims are good or if the carbon wheels are what I want or if I will just buy a set of take offs and have them done up in black.

wheels of america in farmingdale long island in NY offers the service too...

also the bmw and porsche forum guys have a local place they swear by too that I might check out of need be.

for some reason inthink its around 100 or 150 a rim

                https://wheelsamerica.com/retail-ser...pair-services/

sometimes if on the highway your cruising along...the pot hole doesnt create a wheel out of round scenario bit it can scar the out lip of the wheel...with black rims its a snap to fix at home with touch up paint. But the polished lips are delicate and cant ve fixed as easily by an amateur like me...

the unfortunate part of daily driving cars with low profile tires these days. The local and state governments unfortunately are just not keeping up with road repair like they should through usual travels on highways etc.

just ridiculous but a real situation in the tri state NY area these days.

the sanctuary states are blowing through funding like crazy but not upon road repair ...imo (no politics)

The SGM thread has the car with stock rims. Not Z51 though.

I like the stock wheels with SGM. Quite possibly it will be my choice. Black just disappears.

Thanks for posting up...i like it too...

when done up in black with the polished lip for five hundred was fine..for a grand i start to say i could get a set of takeoffs and do all black..

i usually never this picky and I used to love the polished lip...still there is five little knubbys on the outer polished lip version that for some reason keeps catching my eye..

its a styling statement that probably is awesome...and Im just not used to it yet...

thats why I need to see it Thursday at carlisle...

maybe those five little knubbys around the polished lip that creates the illusion of motion...

for a grand...i can pick up a set of take offs for five or so hundred dollars...take them to a shop ...have them gloss blacked out completely for 4 or 5 hundred and call it a day for winter wjeelsmin silver and summer in gloss black...

there was one set of aftermarket rims I really liked for c6 and c7 s that were light and not too expensive... i think was just barely over a grand ...give or take a coupe hundred if I remember correctly they were spun cast, lightweight good lookimg. Id imagine the company will offer them in c8 fitment...

it will take me awhile to search them out again if I dont like the oem setup but Ill know once I see the c8 in various setups...

for me...I cant stand the gm visualizer...I dont know if its the color, the offset or what...

imthink the photo you posted is nice....thank you...from that photo I'm leaning towards that with my order.

that polished lip oem is cool as hell...i just cant tell with the five little knubbys generating a motion if its just a little too much raciness.

of course it could just me rationalizing too.... i can be overly frugal sometimes too......lol

im doing torch red with black interior which is really racy...and Im 60 ....and Im getting concerned just a little bit this torch red car with the black side scoop ..land the black wheels with the polished lip and the five little knubbys in outer polished lip might be screaming a little too much....”look at me”

i need to see the car in carlisle again to decide...

im also thinking 70/30 torch red or maybe white exterior.

ive only seen the orange so far and since I have until december 19th because of the 1LT z51 fe4 constraint...Ive got time to kill

this whole discussion process should take me a little bit to discover and determine what I want to do.

i read your determination of a slightly quieter color this time around so in a way we are sort of on the same wave length...

im just tossing torch red around with white as a possible color and then which wheels I want to do though.l.

For under $100 a wheel I have wheels powder coated. Just did a set of wheels on a 55 for $70 each. JB, I'm doing torch red and black interior same as my C7 and I'm 65.

FYI ... AutoFlex Spray is another great option and is far superior than Plastidip because you can have a true paint appearance...and is also removable....I had it done by the professional body shop down the block for me for $400 and they came out great...might also just go that route. Here is a pic of it on my Q60 after they were finished....To be honest my entire Z06 was sprayed with Autoflex and people couldn't believe it wasn't paint lol. Click image for larger version

And for 400 as mentioned also by zora 69...100 dollars a wheel powdercoated sounds good too.

these are all win wins ...(did you guys drop the car and wheels off or did they come and pick them up.)
