  • Black Canopy Mashups

    .
Feeling nostalgic for the original NSX which helped popularize the black canopy look?
Indulge in a custom paint / wrap on your brand new C8 to bring back that fighter jet theme.

    Blue with black canopy

To get closer to the original NSX, naturally we'll need to start with a red car.

    Red with black canopy

Wait a minute, how about a red canopy / blue car mashup? Hmmm, maybe not.

ID:	56647 at's pretty cool. I used the 3M wrap material on my Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit to cover all of the plastic chrome that they use on that model Jeep. It turned out fantastic, in fact the local dealer thought I had it all painted out! Comes in tons of colors and carbon fiber, etc. Really nice stuff, my Jeep is two years old and the vinyl looks brand new...just like paint.

Sure thing. How about this? Note that I made the side mirrors black to blend in with canopy, but the rear spoiler white to blend in with the rear deck. Your preferences may vary.

              White with canopy

For anyone actually considering this, note that it's difficult to create the lower edge of the canopy so it looks OK.

There are two body lines back there we can follow. One is the bottom edge of the side windows, then sweeping back and up a bit to reach the very tip of the C-pillar. This means the C-pillar itself is only about 2/3 painted / wrapped. Looks a little odd.

Alternatively, we could follow that natural line of the C-pillar base forward to about the door cut line, then sweep up slightly to head towards the base of the A-pillar. This means there will be a painted patch on the door below the window. Also looks odd.

Between the two, my preference would be the higher canopy line as shown above. But in both cases we're fighting against the natural lines of the car at one point or another.

It’s strange with the C8. Almost like you could go both ways and still look good. Going to be a very interesting first year to see what kind of exterior mods get done to personal rides.

Beautiful job! Did you do that with paint or a wrap?

At least in the render, I think this approach looks great. But understand in 3 dimensions it might look add. A very cool idea.

Wrap. Avery and done by a shop just under 6 months ago. $250. I put two layers of HALO flexible film coating on it and it still looks new. Daily driver parked outside at work...in Florida.
