  • C8 Folding Mirror Pictures Detailed Width Information Thanks To “docprego.”

With some having narrow garages and/or having to motor through constricted passageways to certain areas, and our knowing from GM official stats that the C8 StingRay’s width is 76.1” (2.2” greater than the C7 Stingray), how wide is the car with mirrors attached, then in their folded and unfolded positions?

Massive thanks and credit to “docprego” for the visiting a mobile C8 display dealership yesterday, and deciphering and presenting all of this for us, and secondly his identifying a GM video that shows the C8’s mirrors in the process of unfolding.

    Here's what I found today:

I did the mirror measurement twice, once with a random person that helped me and the other time with one of the Corvette specialists. For the rear fender measurement I also did it twice but the same person helped me both times and it was not a Corvette specialist.

For every measurement we tried to get them as accurate as possible but these are tough dimensions to measure and a bit of eyeing it was required when lining up the end of the tape.

The width at the widest point between the mirrors when they are folded is approximately 79”. The widest point from rear fender to the other rear fender is approximately 76". This coincides well with GM's published width of 76.1 without the mirrors.

I tried to measure how much width the unfolded mirrors add and its about 5-6 inches per side, again very difficult to measure.

For me this means that I will have 91" (my garage width) - 79" (C8 width from folded mirror to folded mirror) = 12' of clearance total or 6" per side. Not great but doable.

I attached front and rear view photos of the mirrors folded.

One last thing, there is a dedicated button on the door to fold and unfold the mirrors, couldn't be simpler.

    Hope that is helpful.
GM video: Mirrors unfolding starts at 2:35.

Thanks! Great information. Personally, I like the large mirrors and the fact they are out and away from the car (better sight lines), but I too have a narrow garage (not as narrow as yours) and was worried about this. It will be a tight squeeze, but I'll make it work. Thanks for all your efforts.

I just measured my C7 mirror to mirror using a bubble level to a spot on the floor. Mirrors extended i measure 84.75”. My garage door measures 93.5” but there is another 1.5” of rubber gasket trim. So C8 mirrors folded has more room. Forget to fold the mirrors and it probably still fits.

It would be be nice if GM tied the mirror folding to GPS so they automatically fold when we pull into our own garage similar to the front lift.

They are only confirmed as “power adjusted, power folding, on a 2LT and a 3LT (standard). Not available as even a separate option for the 1LT.

Thank you C7Redneck for that useful C7 comparative information.

I don’t know how this is possible but I measured the C8 mirrors extended at 85”. Someone please confirm this. Yes I know they fold but sometimes I forget things.

Remember that the drivers side mirror is 2” shorter than the passenger side.

Cant' confirm, but that sounds reasonable. An extra 3" per side wider than folded.

I have an extra 5-6" on each side when unfolded in my notes from the day I measured it. However that was a rough estimate before it had been recognized that the driver's side was "2 shorter. So perhaps another 5" + "3" which would increase my folded measurement of 79" to roughly 87".

Could it be possible that the mirrors "automatically" fold/unfold when power on/off, or trans in Park; key fob activated or doors locked/unlocked ? Or simply manual.

Don't have a recent GM product, so I wonder if the C8 mirrors would be similar to other GM brands with folding mirrors?

Since it has a switch on the drivers door I suspect it will be manual. Having them automatically operate would be nice but on the $60K base car I don’t see it happening unfortunately. But absolutely it’s possible. On a side note since it has the GPS operated front lift system they could very well make the mirrors automatically fold in when approaching your garage.

The cars on display, and parked in the lot, at Carlisle and NCM didn't have the mirrors folded when parked, so I doubt they do it automatically.
