Hey John, just to keep the natives from getting restless, it's just an engine cover, technically the manifold is underneath it and is a separate piece.

The real question is whether or not the pieces that have the Corvette lettering are removable on the cover or are they held down with melted plastic heads never intending to be removed. Harder to paint at that point.

Thanks Phil. Really good point. I asked my friend the a question with my using the wrong terminology, to the person who builds the motor (yes, the # 1 engine builder at BGA for the first new Corvette motors of each successive generation of motors), and his exact words were: “To remove the intake manifold, besides the 10 bolts, you'll have the 2 fuel rail harness connectors the fuel line, throttle body connector and a few others to deal with before the intake is removable.”

I should have asked him the question how does one remove the engine cover, for I am only seeing five bolts (probably a sixth one on its top but visually occluded) attaching this silver engine cover to the reveal display board.

Removing five (even six bolts) would be one piece of cake.

Thanks Phil for raising this important correction. Wow, painting the engine cover will be so much easier than I first thought.

That “Corvette trim” pieces on each bank are easy pry off (please see yellow arrow below) so removing them to paint the manifold cover will be super easy. So please why would and should be pay GM a fair amount when we can remove these pieces, paint them what we want, then reinstall them easily (or so we think at this time).

Guess what, another question just placed on my BGA “ask list.”

BTW, there will not be a single actual ordering consensus before September so all the answers we gather at BGA will be in time before those who are lucky enough to be in the first consensus, place their orders for their C8’s. Click image for larger version

Good question. I will ask at NCM 25th — but chances are good that one might not get a definitive answer because GM might well not know then.

Hey John, Hopefully the 5 - 6 bolts will be easy to get to, and then, finding a heat resistant paint to paint it with, in darker RED, like the factory RCD !!

I am going to confirm what I strongly believe, that Edge Red is extremely close to Long Beach Red Metallic, and if so, just going to G2usa.com site and looking in their custom color paint codes and they would make it for you for $110. I have done this twice and both times the results of this great, 975 degree paint, have been outstanding. It is a superb, self leveling paint.

I will post back here once I get my expected confirmation that LBR = Edge Red (expect that within one more week, perhaps less).

I sure hope the constraint on red engine cover is lifted prior to ordering, most likely not.

I don't believe it's that close, LB red has quite a bit more brown cast to it, I suspect if you put them side by side it wouldn't be within 40 shades. Might be wrong, won't be the first and certainly not the last.

If the red color one chooses is much different than the valve covers IMO, the engine compartment would look busy IMO

Without question it's a separate piece, to that we agree, my fear is the "Corvette trim piece has molded in plastic posts that go through holes in the cover and then they melt the top of each post effectively making a rivet head. If you know for sure they are just press fit into a grommet or something, then happy day! Wish I could see the bottom side of the cover.

I guess that's just a fancy plastic engine cover? Maybe I'll wait to see if the aftermarket produces any sexy looking aluminum intake manifolds. Or maybe I'll just remove the plastic engine cover to show off the plastic intake manifold. I like functional beauty, even if it's rough and mass produced.

Not that I expect a Ferrari-quality viewable intake manifold at Corvette prices.

I mentioned in another thread, that I believe that the valve covers are edge red, that would look very nice with matching intake cover. I have to think that the aftermarket guys are drooling over the combinations that they will make available for valve and engine cover combinations to dress up your engine compartment. Can't miss proposition I would think
