It costs GM a ton of money to go through its intensive process of developing a new color for the Corvette, primarily because as Chuck Philippi, BGA Body Shop Manager, has shared several times, that the paint itself, and the application of that paint onto the Corvette’s sheet molded compound body panels is very different, and more complex than painting that same color onto a metal part. Part of that cost, is it takes lots of time for GM to progressively, internally within the plant, to go through the testing, re-testing and further testing of one panel after another for color consistently.
The last official GM document we saw was that the C7 's scheduled end of production is the end of next March. Consequently, IMO the chances of GM starting to paint new Corvettes in the new color of Shadow Gray Metallic (SGM) just two months ago, yet stopping that color just eight months later, is less than 1%.
All the above a long introduction to the probability of Shadow Gray becoming a 2020 mid engine Corvette colors is 99+%.
