    Sting Ray vs Stingray

    Anyone know why the original name was two words? Sting Ray ? Vs the current Stingray ?

    just curious


    Did the S R signify something?


    I'll guess Sport Racer

    Interesting... i never knew it was two words back so many years ago.

      The original "Stingray" concept car spelled it as one word. The C2's stylist, Bill Mitchell, apparently decided to make it two words for the C2, but I've never seen an explanation of why. Nor have I seen an explanation of why GM changed it back to one word in '69 (the '68 wasn't called a Stingray, or Sting Ray, at all), but one word is how it's spelled for the actual animal, so it makes sense, I guess.
