  • The Germans Love the C8 SR HTC

    Hello,

Long time member just didn't have time lately. But I thought you may want to see this.
This is a German review and the driver (pretty well known in Germany) absolutely loves it.
He goes crazy how low the consumption gets for 100 kms. Not going to spoil the video for you, just enjoy. Try with subtitles if you don't understand German.
Oh, and one final thing, this comes from a Porsche lover.

Great video and good advertisement for GM. He could not believe the low fuel consumption at high speed (6.5 Liter @ 100 KM). He kept praising the comfort, performance, good storage, cameras, sound etc. of the corvette and calls it a TRUE Sports car. Was glad to see he used Winter Reifen (winter tires) in such cold conditions. Fun video to watch if you understand German.

On the autobahn he had the C8 HTC with Z51 package up to 181 mph or 290km. Just shows you GM's published top speed of 184 with the Z51 coupe should be right on. It did not appear he had topped it out yet either. Don't know wind direction or slope he was on, but this was hauling butt. He also loved the fact that the engine sounded great under acceleration but quiet when you wanted to relax. That is just how I feel about it as well.

Took me a while to figure out how to get the English closed caption but it was worth it.

6.5 l / 100 km converts to 36 mpg -- and that's on winter tires, which are not kind for fuel consumption on dry pavement, just wow!

He ran it up to about 180MPH (290Klm). The higher then the slower it climbed. But fast is relative when your not racing. Relative to the joy of the experience. Not the other cars. And he enjoyed it.

It's a joy car , not race car.

I had to. The minute I saw this, I was thinking, the good people in the US have to see this.

Thanks so much, John - it is more like a hobby channel.

Exactly this is what I was thinking. I mean given that beast engine it is pretty hard to believe the consumption. But like I have been saying before the C8 even came out, the world will take notice, as this will be something nobody has ever seen before.
                    Ever.

Something interesting I found in the video that I've been trying to Google search but struggling to find the real answer. In the video, about 24:59 timestamp - there is a message in DTC saying "Exhaust filter is being cleaned, please continue driving" (as translated by my shaky German language)

I found it's related to Gas Particulate Filter / OPF in Euro-spec cars. But how do they work? Why must one keep driving the car to make it clean?

Gas particulate filters are nothing more than traps for particulates in the exhaust. Driving at relatively high revs heats them up, and keeps them clean. The reminder on EU spec cars is to ensure that happens often enough.

Our diesel motor coach had a Cummins engine that used DEF and a diesel particular filter (DPF) for emissions reasons, and we had the same reminder on the instrument panel when it sensed a need for cleaning, which was basically to keep driving, and the light would eventually go off.

I'm not familiar with additional maintenance required for the gas versions, but the diesel DPF usually specifies a more thorough cleaning or replacement every 100-150K miles.

And, I believe, in the Euro spec cars with DPF filter, the horsepower is derated by 12 or 13 horses.
