  • C8 Renderings May Look Close

Nice work Chazcron, for Motor1 is writing that the current renderings may look close.

BY: JEFF PEREZ, Editor Let’s hope the new ‘Vette looks this sharp.

The mid-engined Corvette is so close we can practically taste it. Dealers like Kerbeck Chevrolet have opened up pre-order forms, and our spy photographers captured near-production prototypes showing off some of their final forms. But even with all this info, we still don't know what the **** thing looks like. Rendering artists though, once again, have given it their best shot.

A user named "Chaz" on MidEngineCorvetteForum.com has taken our spy shots and turned them into virtual renderings of the mid-engined Corvette in its entirety. Based on what we've seen thus far, this could be the closest thing to a production model.

Up front, the concept borrows a ton of cues from the current C7 Corvette. The front fascia, though it's a bit sharper and more defined, definitely shares its shape with the current front-engined 'Vette. The headlights look similar, and even the central grille (though it's more pointed at the nose), appears ripped from a C7. But out back is where things get interesting.

The taillights on this concept look nothing like those on the current C7. Instead of the C7's defined dual housings at either side, this Corvette concept has a sleeker housing with a barely noticeable dual fixture. Gone is the downward-angled black trim, too, in place of two lower mounted vents instead. A subtle spoiler sits atop the trunk, and quad exhaust tips and a carbon fiber rear diffuser cover the lower portion of the body. More On The Mid-Engined Corvette:

Proof: C8 Corvette Will Keep This Famous Name
Assuming GM engineers can work out the C8's many gremlins, the new Corvette could debut this summer at a standalone event. No, it probably won't be at the New York Auto Show, as other rumors suggest. Chevy will possibly host press and customers at the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky, which celebrates its 25th birthday this year.

Reports hint at a starting price of around $60,000 to $70,000 for the base model, with the more powerful models exceeding six figures. Production starts later this year, and deliveries should kick off sometime in early 2020.

Thanks Benplace. I remember watching that animation 20+ times before the reveal.

It seems like both renderings of the side 1/4 window are off just a hair. But what a big difference it makes on the overall look. Just a simple thing can make a difference.

I think one of the things that is off in all of the C8 renderings is the rear window... I think its going to be a throwback to the C3. Taking its inspiration from this...

I always really liked the C3 trailing window treatment. Bring it back Corvette.

Amazing how close it is to the actual production C7

hope the current rendering are as accurate... If it looks like Chaz's rendering, we're going to have a killer looking MidEngine Vette!

Well, all the spy shots pretty clearly show a fastback roofline. The vert will have buttresses similar to those, though.

I believe the HT vert could have definite and exciting echoes of the C3. It’s horizontal, side-to-side deck exhaust vents would allow the C3 look.

However, I do not believe the coupe will have much of a C3 resemblance, if nothing else because its six exhaust vents in its “window frame.”

If the side scoops do in fact have the large black moldings, I may have to reconsider ordering Torch Red and order Black instead.

I bet there will be a color match option.

I also believe the scoops are not going to be a prominent as the renderings. Not that chaz and the others have not done a great job so far, in fact it's amazing the work they do! I suspect there's a lot of trickery going on with the camouflage and hidden artifacts underneath to hide it's true shape. My opinion is that once released we will see more streamlined/integrated intake with less effect on the door?

Well I like to hear that.
I think the thing for me to remember is the scoops/intakes don't actually stick out! The doors come in and direct air to the scoop, which is probably no further out than the front or rear fender. Hard to discern in pictures or renderings, but in real life you'll see the beauty in the design. If only there was a sky or overhead view of these renderings...
