We grabbed 40 new shots of a prototype casually cruising on the street.

The last couple months we’ve seen plenty of cool renderings and a few brief sightings of the mid-engined Corvette out and about, but today our spy photographer was in the right place at the right time. Specifically, the place was southeast Michigan not far from GM’s Milford Proving Grounds, and the camera didn’t stop until upwards of 40 shots were nabbed.

    Previous C8 Encounters:

These photos do provide some interesting details we haven’t seen before, at least up close. We can peer through the coverings hiding the front and rear lights to see outlines of the design, notably at the front where we see what appears to be a multi-matrix LED setup with a white accent strip at the top that doubles as an orange turn signal. Looking at the back, the LED units appear to be production-spec with a strong resemblance to the current Corvette model.

Sticking to the C8’s backside, these photos give us an outstanding look at the batwing spoiler. It looks more aggressive than what we’ve seen on previous prototypes – could this wing feature some of the active aero components recently uncovered by the folks over at MidEngineCorvetteForum.com? For the record, we’ve also seen C8 test vehicles with a very thin spoiler so either Chevrolet is trying out different designs, or different trim levels are out on public roads. We’d bet a gazillion dollars it’s the latter.

Awesome close ups! What is that yellow tube at the edge of the front end, in front of the Headlight?

Doesn't look like the "Electric" problems are there anymore...

That curved spoiler looks strange. Doesn't fit with the shape of the back being more of hard corners and square looking.

Also, the hood looks clean, no more stuff glued on it

One wonders how much padding it still has on it (not that anything will help its looks in my biased opinion). Nice we have a definitive picture showing that there is air space on either side of the centerline underneath the wing. However, sorry to be so negative on this component of the car, but that area is going to a massive PIA to keep clean.

I agree with all your comments. I believe that there were some electrical issues, but with a batch of at least six on the west, more testing in Michigan I think the electrical issue is now behind them.

I hope the retro hood mounted tach is someone's idea of a joke.

Definitely less padding on the rear end IMO.

Can’t imagine it will be any worse to keep clean than our Z06.

Looks like maybe the headlights are multi-cell LED units.

Looks more like some sort of telemetry antenna.

That "mail slot" under the center sure looks like a lint collector.

Rear fenders look more shapely. More aggressive rockers.

That hood is showing more definition. Looks good.

The pointy nose design should allow for a nice after market Speed Racer Mach 5 kit. ; )

I'm hopeful that we are seeing a built in front licence plate holder. Manufacturers who make no provision (looking at you Supra), are doing their designs a disservice.

To me the side proportioning seems strange with the rear wheel pushed so close to the back bumper. The distance between the front and rear wheel is too long and that throws off the proportioning and hurts the overall look.
