  • V2 Show-n-Sto C8 Front Plate Install Option

    We earlier saw a traditional install of the C8 Z51 Sho-n-Sto on a 5VM system. It is here. For those not familiar with the beauty of that system, without a single tool and literally in five seconds most, one can remove the entire front plate system so that nothing is visible for a car show (and also have that same 5 second max re-install for the drive home). Thanks to my friend and fellow MECF member “stevera2” for leading the way on this mod as shown in this link.

    https://www.midenginecorvetteforum.c...-system-option

    Some wanted to see more pictures than in his install, and as I I chose to do a “curvature” modification to that product, here they are

    I know that this will not visually work for many but since I am in a front plate state, and friends have gotten tickets for not running one, and I choose to have it in place at all time when on the roads, here is my modified system. It results in the top of the plate being a little more than 5” LOWER than the top of the factory recessed system. I like that it shows most of the front fascia uninterrupted from side to side rather than the primary OEM front plate system bisecting the vertical part of the fascia in half.

    I have included way more than needed pictures showing how I did it, and nicely with my 1 1/2’ drive up wooden ramps I did not need to jack it up not start the car nor needing to raise it with the front lift to get my drill vertically underneath to drill that one needed new hole. As before you use the three center, under splitter OEM mounting points (so no drilling needed there). The one picture shows all of the tools I used to do the install (except for a Phillips screwdriver).

    As always, questions are welcomed, and I understand if you do not like this install method and choose to run front plate naked or install your front plate using either OEM system.

    Notes:

    1)Now that there is room for the factory “V” emblem above the plate, I am now working on how to install it above the plate but still on the vertical part of the fascia. Encountering however difficulty since the V emblem does not have “bend” angle as the fascia. Still trial and erroring it. I hope I can succeed!

    2)To bend the four “arms” of the Sho-n-Sto plate mounting bracket to create my curved install, I just used a little muscle bending each one in turn against a piece of old carpet resting on my garage floor. I have linked the actual front plate frame I purchased below; its “center” is aluminum, covered by visible carbon fiber cloth, to allow that bending;

    3)Not sure how I visually feel with the carbon fiber front plate frame since it is somewhat different from the front splitter’s vis carbon fiber; might pull the plate frame off and substitute a gloss black one from the same manufacturer.

      Hey John, you said "but since I am in a front plate state, and friends have gotten tickets for not running one, and I choose to have it in place at all time when on the roads" in your post.

      When the officer sees that bent plate and realizes how fast you were traveling to bend it, you won't just get a ticket, you'll probably just go straight to jail.

        Funny! Didn’t bend from aero pressure until I got to 184 MPH — so he must have been clocking me on his radar while he/she was also on the same race track or same, closed airport runway.
