Vis CF Wheels Changed Safely and Properly

Thanks to Korey@Paragon Performance and Sheldon@Shottenkirk Chevrolet with their Hunter Revolution Walk Away new machine, now to safely without touching the carbon fiber to change a vis CF wheel.

This should have been a required tool for any GM dealer who sells Corvette Z06's Glad to see this excellent tool for getting the tire changes done safely. Thanks for posting John.

What about folks not living nearby? CF Wheels will be scratched off their wishlist. I wanted them for sure - however seeing the problems they are presenting - I will find something else.

He sounds very confident but unfortunately these instructions are still probably not the best, since as per a Hunter rep I spoke with he should definitely be using the flange plate attachment, to avoid damage to the center portion of the wheel:

The Paragon guy keeps talking about the face of the wheel but that was not the problem Austin had. Austin had damage in the hub of the wheel, where the Hunter machine attached, I am guessing from slippage. In Austin's case the machine they used was really dirty so that probably acted like sand paper, so maybe if the machine were clean, the slippage might not have eaten through the carbon fibers. But if it were my wheel, I would definitely not let them change the tires without using the recommended flange plate attachment.

You can contact other tire places and see if they have the Hunter Revolution system. Doesn't have to be a chevy dealer. And by the time you get your car and burn through a set of tires (at least 4S tires), additional places will probably have the machine. Worst case, you hit the road to WPB or Miami when you need tires. Bound to be a Lambo or Ferrari dealer with a machine.

That said, much of the weight savings can be captured for half the price with aftermarket wheels and it provides the opportunity for a custom look.

Most older tire changing systems do not put out enough psi to seat the bead. That is why a trick it was learned with a C7 Z06 was running a hose directly from the main compressor in the shop to the equipment. Perhaps the Hunter Revolution equipment has higher psi output.

Also re installing a used tire that has been expanded previously and taken a set is Much easier to seat than a new tire.

Austin was having issues with the Cup 2 r'S which are the runflat tires. The vehicle we had to work with didn't have this factory tire option but the install would work the same. The difference is the Cup 2 r's have a much stiffer sidewall being run flat so it's much harder to seat the bead. I have no doubt we could get the bead to seat at Shottenkirk given the opportunity

I thought all tires for the C8 Z06 were ZP run flats?

Hard pass for me - I owned 3 Prowlers with 3 piece custom rims and had nothing but headaches with those rims. Taking them to custom shops and them ruining the rims then wanting to blame me for bringing in bent and damaged rims. No Thanks - been there done that.

If you go to the Hunter web site, they have a search function where you can find what dealers and shops have Hunter equipment, and what type of equipment each has. I used this to find my closest dealer with a Hunter Revolution and Hunter force balancing. Turns out, in my area, it was a Ford dealer, which mounted and balanced new tires on new MRR wheels for me for $25 per wheel.

I just searched and simpson chevrolet in irvine has one which is 8 miles away and I believe Austin was there? Irvine Subaru which is down the street from simpson also has that machine. I'd does not make sense about Austin driving all the way to San Diego ferrari to have them try? Austin lives here in my county...

Why would Austin drive to Temecula To have them mounted?
