  • C8 has fake engine noise according to Matt Farah

I know it's been announced that the c8 had sound tubes routed into the cabin but this is the first I've read about fake engine noise through the speakers.

Can anyone with GM contacts confirm this?

Motor Trend reported this way back in July after their ride-along.

Sure hope not. I almost always have the radio off and the windows down to hear that lovely roar.

GM should give you the chance to download different sounds using their "over the air" system. V-12 anyone?

Me, too. I think these guys are misunderstanding what's really going on. Maybe because GM did a lousy job of explaining it.

It's not totally fake, Motor Trend described it as a "tiny bit" of enhancement.

Hmmm, kind of like those blue pill "enhancements" they advertise at the back of the magazine???

                    The MT quote is this

I'm struck by how conversational the cockpit is. The engine note is textbook small-block background music, which comes to the foreground a bit when an exhaust valve in the muffler opens in Sport or Track mode. Most of what I'm hearing is organic, but the active noise-cancellation sound system does a tiny bit of frequency augmentation, as well—primarily of exhaust sound, because the pipes are now muffled by a luggage area and the engine. They're also positioned way behind our ears, and sound pressure drops with the square of distance.
I'm not sure this counts as "fake noise". I'm reading it as being "real noise being selectively filtered", rather than "artificial noise". I'm sure that now the subject has been raised, we'll get more factual information.

I know about "fake noise" being a Golf R owner. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soundaktor

So what is "a tiny bit"? We know from GM that the Bose system has noise cancellation, and there has been some speculation that the noise cancellation intentionally doesn't attempt to cancel exhaust and intake sounds. Is that "enhancement"?

In any case, we'll know in a few weeks. If the magazines report there's fake exhaust noise, and that's wong, GM will make it clear very quickly, I think.

The back window in the convertible goes down, for sure. But does it do so with the top up. If it does, then that feature will allow the exhaust sounds in.

Question. If anyone heard. Did the C8-R , on stage at the 10/02 event sound like {1.} Flat plane crank or { 2.} DOHC; or {3} a high RPM or {4} like the C7-R ?????

Yes the window can be raised/lowered whether top up or down. Btw...several cars on the market have started using the enhanced cabin engine noise. I have a Jag XJ that does it and I like it. It makes certain frequency’s more pronounced and gives you a more “connected” experience with the engine. On the vert this won’t be necessary.

I hope there is a menu selection to turn it off.

Most likely a white noise generator ?
which cancels out certain frequencies and is commonly used to secure voices/sounds in meeting rooms, etc
to prevent hearing in another room(s)
