There’s no denying the elevated position occupied by the Porsche 911. For more than half a century, this iconic sports car has stood as the standard by which other sports cars are measured. Like it or not, one American sports car has surpassed the venerable Porsche as a more satisfying car to drive. Which American sports car is more satisfying than the Porsche 911?

Among the 2023 models, the Chevrolet Corvette is the most satisfying car to own. Autoevolution reports this rating, showing the Corvette at the top of the Consumer Reports’ ranking for owner satisfaction.

Could this satisfaction rating be due to the engine moving to the middle of the ‘Vette? Are owners happier with the Corvette because it’s a domestic car that’s more affordable than the Porsche?

The 2023 version of the Chevrolet Corvette welcomes the Z06 model, which is an incredible high-performance version of this American sports car. Why do Chevrolet Corvette owners love their cars?

Consumer Reports rates owner satisfaction based on driving experience, comfort, and value. Considering the Corvette offers more bang for your buck with lower starting prices and plenty of excitement, this expert publication may be onto something.

Not only is the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette at the top of the owner satisfaction rating by CR, but it’s also one of the 10Best Cars for 2023 as rated by Car and Driver. The introduction of the new Z06 model has something to do with this listing. This new model shakes the ground with a thunderous 670 horsepower helping place this car at the top of the list. Where does CR have the Porsche 911 listed?

While the Corvette is the American sports car that has bested one of the most iconic German machines in history, you won’t look far to find the Porsche 911. In fact, this amazing sports car is second on the list. That’s a strong position, especially with its high starting price and high cost of ownership compared to other models on the list. What does the 2023 Chevrolet Corvette bring to the table?

Even if you don’t drive the Z06 model, this American sports car is an excellent choice. The Stingray powertrain is the base version packing a 6.2-liter V8 engine with enough power to rocket this car to 60 mph in 2.9 seconds. If you add the Z51 package to the mix, that time is cut to 2.8 seconds. Yes, small increments cost a lot to achieve in high-end sports cars.

Typically, the Chevrolet Corvette suffers from poor build quality and an uninspiring interior. That is not the case with the C8 generation. This car is impressive, packed with cool features, and great to drive. Nothing about the Corvette that would take it off the pedestal built by the owners who responded to make this the most satisfying car to drive.

I love driving both of them....at different times of course......The Corvette is a powerful mid-engine world class GT...... and the 911 is precise and nimble and a joy to row through the gears on a twisty road..... There are other powerful mid-engine cars.....but only one 911.....

Oddly enough it was an American CEO that saved the 911 when Porsche attempted to replace it and produce a conventional sports car....

I've loved Corvettes since the TV show Route 66. But I really fell in love when my best friend Gus D'Ambrosia was given a brand new Nassau Blue '65 roadster with a 4-speed and disc brakes by his parents for high school graduation. My MOPARs were faster ― in a straight line ― but couldn't come close to turning with him or stopping.

In the interim was my three years in the Army and five years in college ― I worked full time ― and it wasn't until the '80s that I went with a Vette. My first truly good one was my '92 LT1 with Z07. Then a '94 LT4, all 6-speeds. What followed was a '01 Z06, then a '06 Z06, the best looking of all of them.

When the C8 was announced I was stymied in my attempt to buy the first mid-engine Corvette so I bought another mid-engine car, a Ferrari F430. It was incredible, handled like an F1 car, and was drop-dead gorgeous. But it was a maintenance nightmare so I sold it for a '22 C8 Z51. I don't regret the decision. There is something about designed and manufactured in the USA.

Driving the C8 is a combination of a plush Caddy and a race car. Very satisfying.

I think any objective and educated car guy will agree that the Mid Engine Cayman is the superior Porsche.
I've been daily driving Corvettes my entire life and I hate Porsche, and even I can admit this article is a joke.
Porsche's are more satisfying to drive, and I regret the day I got out of my brand new ZO6 and drove a 911 Turbo S for the first time.
        Imagine a TT LT6 in a Cayman GT4 or 992 Turbo S?
        Game over.

Never Was a Porsche fan myself. While consistently, they were most performance car drivers’ first choice, I just never liked what I call the “bubble” or “****” looking cars (VW Beetle, Porsche 911, etc). Admittedly, performance wise, they are beasts, and fun to drive however, they’ve simply never appealed to me aesthetically speaking. But, this is just one man’s opinion. 🤷‍♂️

I hate these "best" pronouncements. I don't think there is a best at everything. I do know that our Cayman, Miata, and C8 all delight me in very different ways with completely different "personalities." If forced to give up one or more, that would be a very difficult decision.

However, I would not be allowed to make that decision because the C8 is my wife's car, and it is her runaway favorite.

I owned a 1984 911 and that was when that car still made you pay the price for lack of skill. Lots of those went off road back end first compliments of trailing throttle oversteer. I haven't driven the newest generation, but I'm sure it is light years of advancement in refinement. (probably not the steering though) All cars have their own personality, and the one that fits you best is the one that is most satisfying. I'm 2 1/2 years in and still look forward to driving my SR.

A very odd statement based on what appears to be a one sided survey (Porsche owners and Corvette owners-not owners of both). Ask a test group that own or drive both the C8 Corvette and a Porsche 911 or any other sports/performance car, and see what the answer is….

I love Corvettes, but there are days that driving another car is equally satisfying.

but I’m not going to run out and buy another Porsche just to see if the CR article is accurate.

Interesting article. I see the appeal of both cars. I repeatedly seem to vote Corvette with my wallet, but my computer screensaver is a black 911 GT3 RS Weissach with gold wheels and no side stickers. Even so, would I really choose that car over the upcoming ZR1? I do not think so.

I like the 992 911s. Really nice cars. That said I dont like the local high volume porsche dealers service costs and their msrps seem a bit high as well. Still its a nice everyday sportscar.

that said when stacked up against Ferrari's, Lamborghinis, mclarens and even the c8 corvette the porsches styling while very attractive almost goes unnoticed when surrounded by those mentioned in the above statement.

that iconic look has been purposely preserved as thats what the porsche 911 fans want.

my neighbor tried to sell me his porsche 911 turbo a few years back and I gave it some thought. The orice was right. The car was perfect and beautiful. I just didnt want to stop owning corvettes and start owning porsches. Great sports car. I just feel corvettes are more my style.

Only a data point of one so not statistically valid, but I have both and right now I prefer the Corvette. Also note I have owned front engine Porsches, mid engine Porsches and rear engine Porsches. All great cars but this C8 is something else, IMHO of course.
