CORVETTE TODAY - Kevin Mackay Talks About The Cunningham Corvette & Bringing It Back To Life

In 1960, Briggs Cunningham took 3 Corvettes to France to race at Le Mans. After that race, the cars were brought back to the United States, put back to original and sold to consumers. The #3 car was recovered about put back to the way it was when it raced in 1960 at Le Mans and is owned by a private owner. https://youtu.be/_g_9Eah8pS8; https://podcasts.adorilabs.com/corve...FbtXiohpLYxLCh The car is owned by Bruce Meyers of the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles. But what happened to the car? After a long legal battle, Kevin Mackay from Corvette Repair in Long Island, New York, has been putting this historic Corvette back to it's original 1960 livery for the past year (after it was purchased by Briggs Cunningham's family at auction). • My E-Ray Specs & Costs

Click image for larger version Name:	xpoft4315yzsyuus7med.jpg Views:	1 Size:	102.3 KB ID:	449699

Starting to spec-out my new E-Ray and see how the costs compare to my 2020 C8 Stingray.

The Stingray was a 2LT model, and way back then the 2LT base was $67,295.00 I still think the 2LT is the Goldilocks trim.

Options and pricing in 2020 was:
    • Mag Ride - $1895.00
    • Z51 Package - $5000.00
    • Carbon Flash wheels - $995.00
    • Engine appearance package - $995.00
    • Battery Protection unit - $100.00
    • Red calipers - $595.00
    • GT2 seats - $1495.00
    • Front lift - $1495.00! - Man, it went up $1100.00 since then!
    • Carbon Flash high wing - $1150.00
    • Black lug nuts - $225.00
Total - $81,240.00 plus tax., etc.

The 2LT Coupe base price of the E-Ray is $108,400.

Options and pricing so far. Some prices are estimated from 2023 Stingray builds:
    • ZER Package - $1000.00 ??? - I don't see how it could be much more.
    • Carbon Flash wheels - $995.00
    • Red calipers - $695.00
    • GT2 seats - $1695.00
    • Front lift - $2595.00!
That's all I have so far. Total cost = $115,380.00

So happy that the CCB, and mag ride are now included in the E-Ray. I don't need the now $6345.00 Z51 package on the E-Ray, of course.

When you take off the $9000.00 price of the CCB, and the now included $1895.00 Mag Ride, the difference between the 2024 E-Ray and the 2020 Stingray is only $23,245.00

I made $24,000 profit on the Stingray, by the way. So as I see it, I get the 2024 E-Ray plus $765.00 cash for the cost of the 2020 Stingray.

I think the E-Ray is a heck of a rig for any cost, especially when one compares it to the Euro supercars.

Nice that you can trade up like that. When did you sell your stingray?

Too bad you couldn't enjoy the SR for a few more years..... I'm guessing it will cost me around $40K to go from our loaded 2020 HTC to the E-Ray. I WILL NOT make the mistake of selling our C8 until the next one is closing in on the Target Production Date. Made that mistake with the C7 and had to buy a 'filler' Corvette at Mecum (although that was a profitable mistake). I'm not going to find myself in the position John is in waiting for a new Corvette again.... Unfortunately, I most likely don't have as many years to go as you do....
2020 HTC Torch Red with lots of goodies. Built in September. Museum Delivered in October......

If you don't have anything of value into it aftermarket, you will be below MSRP, but not by too much. Of course depends on the normal mileage and such. Who knows what the market might be like in a year when you may actually be getting it... I would say 10% below MSRP might be the worst.. but thats a guess. But the days of making a profit after driving it for a year are gone.

As far as my E-Ray build. I'm not sure if I want to go "All out" like I did on my SR. It would be like a $135k build. or a fair 2LZ build for $115K. I have a year to decide.
Delivered 6/30/21: The Red Demon 2021 3LT Red Mist HTC.

I sent my guy at ELCO a note today to take me off the Z06 list and put me on
the E-Ray list. I asked him to give me an update on allocations and production date as soon as they hear more from GM.

WRT track performance, the GM statement that it is equivalent to the Z06 is kind of an eye-opener. It’s like Tadge put these guys into an internal competition and it resulted in a tie, LOL. The Z06 is lighter and has more power, BUT the E-Ray has boatloads more torque and is AWD.

The fastest sports race car in history is the Porsche 919 EVO which did the Ring in 5:19 and change. It is a hybrid with AWD and that is no accident. The new hybrid GT cars are set to make a big show at Daytona next weekend and will
likely obliterate the current DPi track records all year. Should be fun to watch. Welcome to the future !

thats a wonderful cost analysis and of course money well spent. That Eray you described is stunning and the final price money well spent.

              I am digging the Eray

BTW - the Corvette Z06 / Z07 was named Performance Car of the Year today. It was 2 seconds faster than the second place car, the Porsche GT4RS around the track, and its sticker is about $30K cheaper. There is a new King of the Hill in town.

Actually, I never had it long enough to sell it, and there was no trade-up.

I was at the drag strip in late 2020 and the car made an un-commanded 90 degree right turn at 63 mph. I hit the concrete barrier head-on at 5.5 G's of force according to the Lotus Cosworth data log. To this day we don't know if a half-shaft broke or I just hit some unseen antifreeze or oil on the track. We did not have a chance to do any forensic evaluation after the crash to confirm the broken half-shaft theory. I signed up for Test-N-Tune that day (luckily) so the car was fully insured for full replacement value, or $106k+ in December 2020. I have been living out my C8 fantasies here at the forum vicariously through you guys since then.

That is why I am so hot on the E-Ray. AWD is a massive safety feature, and a mid-engine configuration is no guaranty of full traction.

Great spec! I’ve had my eye on a 2LT HTC for a long time. My spec is below. I am assuming/hoping I can get the exterior accents to be painted in carbon flash on the E-Ray for a similar price to the body colored accents on the Stingray. I made a quick spreadsheet based on today’s pricing. For comparison, a 2023 Z51 Stingray with the same options (excluding the need for an assumed $995 option to get those exterior accents to Carbon Flash) is $94,505.

My job over the next several months/year/however long it takes to get an allocation is to decide if the E-Ray is worth a $31k+ price tag. I could snag a new daily driver for that price….

I did a similar analysis comparing the options I bought with my MY21 C8 Z51 and my difference is about 35K as I'll mostly get the front lift, two tone seats with the suede inserts. Overall, the way I think about it is we're getting Z06-like performance in a better street version and it's still trackable for people like me that only go once or twice a year. I owned multiple Porsches in the past and I'm comparing the E-Ray to the Porsche 911 Turbo as I think of the electric motors as a zero turbo lag booster and not an EV.

Like others have said on the forum, got tired of paying the Porsche tax and crazy prices when I got my C8 and I doubt I'll go back to purchasing new Porsches. I think the $35K difference is a pretty good price for what we're getting overall in terms of the wide body, extra power, no gas guzzler tax, mag shocks, and the CCBs. I wasn't going to get the CCBs if they were not standard equipment, but it's nice in terms of the lower brake dust compared to the Z51 brakes.

Now I'm deciding if I want to stay with the coupe or do the HTC as I'm planning on keeping the E-Ray for a long time. I love the silver HTC with the blue strip GM is showing in all of their videos. It's a fun time to play with all the possible ways to configure the car.

My build/price guesstimate. Maybe another couple of grand in options. I'd REALLY like to get a high-wing on this, but so far not available. No idea if the Z06 or SR high-wing are even an option on this model. I suspect not, but that would add another $1500-ish.
                            2LZ E-Ray Coupe (Torch Red) $ 108,400.00

                            Carbon Flash Metallic-painted Ground Effects $ 720.00
                            Transparent Roof $ 995.00
                            Front Lift $ 2,595.00
