I have owned my Corvette for close to two months and not once have I felt the urge of turning the audio on and listening to music rather than the engine and exhaust. This is my first V8! I keep telling people the sound system is probably the least useful feature of the car.
Unfortunately, the sound system automatically turns on and plays music every time I start the car, whether the music comes from my bluetooth-connected phone, or from the radio. Even if audio is off when turning the engine off and leaving the car, the default setting upon re-entry and engine start is audio ON. This requires me to push two buttons every time I start the car: the start button followed by the audio off or pause buttons. How annoying.
Apple won't let you turn their auto-play feature off (unless perhaps you subscribe to Apple Music). And it appears, neither does GM.
One solution I have found to avoid auto-play or having the sound on upon start up is to plug an EMPTY USB flash drive inside the armrest and ask the audio system to play music from it. The sound system will remain stuck on the empty USB flash drive, on a wild goose chase, and play nothing, regardless of volume settings. The USB flash drive selection remains unchanged after turning off and leaving the car, and therefore unchanged upon re-entry and start up. Moreover, this leaves the volume settings where they are needed for phone conversations.
