  • I Would you pay to view real time build on CCTV

I wish I could pay a couple of hundred dollars to tune in to CCTV and watch my car being built. It would be something I would never forget. I would certainly watch it more than I have my wedding video.

I am already paying by buying the car. I think owners should have access to a factory webcam to view their build.

GM has never allowed cameras/cell phones into the plant. Exception: When they individually approve specific photographers to take pictures, and then only in certain parts of the plant, e.g., trade secret protection. People has been escorted out of the plant who tried to sneak in a cell phone camera but were caught, with one security escorting them out, walking on both side of the person.

CCTV on the production line?? The union would never allow it. I can already hear the business agent and shop steward yelling about how they stay busy all day, never take an un-authorized break , you only want them to monitor our workforce and on and on........

I hope to pay for and take the buyers tour for my next Corvette, and watch my car being built in person. I would love to have a video recording of that, too, but no some very specific photos is the best I'll get.

Can't agree less. Corporate espionage would be even more of an issue. Buying a product does not give the consumer carte blanche access to proprietary knowledge and internal workings of a company.

Buying a ticket to a football game doesn’t give access to the locker room, nor does buying a hot dog entitle you to see it’s production process firsthand. Sure, it would be great if a Lady Gaga concert ticket gave you access to the rehearsals, but the product is distinct from the process.

Ever so slightly different than having a live feed of an assembly line that everyone can see.

Actually, it probably will, if you really want. For the C7, they offered a "buyers tour," where you could walk along with a personal guide and watch your car being built, and get a photo album of the visit / build. Once they reopen plant tours, they'll probably start offering buyer's tours again. For a price, of course.

Yup, a few dollars out of my pocket would be worth it for me to know that someone with a gripe about whatever, knows that their actions on the line are being monitored. Sign me up.
