  • Radar on cruise

I rented a RAV4, and it had radar on the cruise control. The car would automatically adjust its speed if there was a car in front of it, and even brake if the car is in front braked. Is this feature common on all new cars? Will it be on the C8 Corvette?
Torch red 1LT, no options. Built June 4, received July 2

Have it on my 2015 Genesis. They call it adaptive cruise control. Nice, ain’t it?

Notably, the C8 does not offer more autonomous driver assistance features such as adaptive cruise control or Super Cruise, and for good measure. After all, what’s the point of buying a car like the C8 if not to actually drive it?

Sorry, but it fits with a cruising car, not so much with a sports car.

So, I guess we’ll see it on the Grand Touring model.

I take only one long road trip via interstate highway a year. But adaptive cruise control would still be nice.

I’ve only had manual transmission Corvettes, a situation where you wouldn’t want adaptive cruise, but I can see the value in a car with an automatic transmission. It may well be a year two or three add.

My adaptive cruise control is my right foot.

I'm glad it's not standard equipment. It would be wasted on me. I wouldn't be surprised if this shows up the 2021s.

I'm fine if they decide to add it, I just won't use it. Hopefully it would be something that could be disabled.

I've used it on two rental cars. On a Subaru, it worked great in most situations, but had one really annoying aspect. If I had the cruise set to, say, 70 mph, and the car in front of me slowed significantly, it worked fine. But if that car then changed lanes, my car would accelerate really hard until it got within following distance of the next car up the road, and then slow suddenly. It's a little bit disconcerting to be coming up on another car going 20 mph faster than he is.

On a Buick, it was complete ****. When the car it was following slowed down, my car would close the gap rapidly, then suddenly slow. When the gap grew, it would lag behind, then suddenly accelerate. I ended up just turning it off. If that's typical of GM's system, then please don't put in on the Corvette, ever.

Philosophically, I have a concern about a line of 20 or 30 cars all with their speed controlled by the first car in line, with half the drivers paying minimal attention to their speed.

It works pretty well on my wife’s DD, a Mazda 3 GT. It is adjustable for distance with a steering wheel switch, so you can easily choose/set what is the distance between you and the vehicle in front of you.

While it is not perfect, and I often think of choosing to turn it off (also a single set), but then I think if it saves one time my running into the car in front of me...., thus it always remains on.
