  • Tadge Q & A From Carlisle

Thanks you 16/C7Z for conducting this “mini interview” with Tadge today.

TADGE: NO.. the clutches are slipping ever so slightly at idle in gear, while stopped. no effective wear on the clutch packs due to the low torque applied. it will function similar to the conventional automatic in traffic.

ME: Z51 v Base acceleration difference? how much slower is the base (i mentioned that i love the look of the car without the wing, he mentions that he does as well)

TADGE: the Z51 has 6% shorter gearing, it is slightly quicker. i've been asked many times about getting that "sub 60" (his phrase) the base is going to surprise people they are very close. The Z51 shifts twice by 60mph, the base only makes the 1-2 shift and passes 60mph. the Z51 gives you that extra punch in the back by 60mph (making a fist and hitting his other opened hand to give a visual) (another person asked him about times which drew a life from Tadge and the following) - LOL.. i'm not telling.. it will be released soon, very soon.. i think people will be surprised how fast the base car is..

ME: DCT Clutch packs.. how will chevy address the clutch pack in relation to warranty? will they treat them like a "manual transmission" or like the clutch packs in the automatic? And what is the life span of the clutches? maintenance?

(at this time another gentlemen moved in on me and diffused the direct question about maintenance)

TADGE: The clutch packs should last the life of transmission.. Clutch packs will be treated like those of the automatic transmissions, not like a conventional clutch wear item of a manual trans.. (Maintenance was answered very muddy, but appears to be like changing the trans fluid of an auto).

ME: Launch Control how does it work in the C8?

TADGE: Pull both paddles in any mode doesn't matter, launch control is always accessible by pulling both paddles bringing up the revs, letting the paddles go at the same time and flooring the gas.. I also like to pull both paddles while slowing down to a stop, i like to coast..

ME: Design of the exhaust, are they outboard due to design? or necessity?

TADGE: Necessity, there's a huge muffler behind the storage compartment it needs to be outboard for packaging.

ME: Exhaust manifolds.. Does the Z51 come with different exhaust manifolds, like the tubular "header" style vs the base having different manifolds..

TADGE: I get asked this a lot as well. The LT2 has the same exhaust manifolds both Z51 and non Z51.. tubular exhaust manifolds. showing them without the heat-shielding, which there is a ton of, has confused this.. a lot.

    Great interview Q/A!!!

Interesting to know Tadge also like the look of the car without wing as many of us do.

I spoke with Tadge for a couple of minutes today. I first thanked him for making this great car. I asked him how the Z51 C8 compared to my C7 Z as far as acceleration. He said, to 60 they are close, after that the Z06's horsepower would take over.
      Pretty much what I expected.
