  • If ME Has 12 Colors

I doubt that anyone would disagree that we will again be seeing next year the four most popular 2019 colors, e.g., White, Black, Torch Red and Sebring Orange.

What would be the remaining four you would believe will continue unchanged for next year? According to CorvetteBlogger (thank you), we know that colors 5-10 in popularity for 2019 have been, in order, as follows:

Watkins Glen Gray (now Shark Gray)
    Long Beach Red
Admiral Blue (now Elkhart Lake Blue)
    Ceramic Matrix Gray
    Blade Silver
    Corvette Racing Yellow

So IF GM follows past practice, they will eliminate two of those colors from next year, and replace them with two new ones.

Thankfully for us yellow lovers, as long as we have a Corvette C7.R/C8.R team and Doug Fehan, we will keep yellow.

What others will be replaced with what???

My guesses, worth nothing, are that Ceramic Matrix Gray goes away — replaced by Pearlescent Metallic White, and Corvette Racing Yellow goes away — replaced by a return to a brighter yellow.

But all this is just by way of introduction, for what if, as the new paint shop is capable of, we get a two new colors?

    Background for those who wish:

If we do go to twelve colors next year, what would do you think # 11 and # 12 would be?

I hope they retain Silver, as it will just show the lines of the car in spectacular fashion (plus it's so easy to maintain). If they do, mine will be silver.

I would have to believe there will always be: Red (of some shade), White, Yellow (of some shade), Grey (of some shade), Blue (of some shade). Black didn't use to be a guaranteed color, but it has been in last couple of gens. So that is 6. Silver would bring it to 7.

That would leave 5 colors for either variations of the main/core group above (i.e. two different blues, or two different greys), or new ones (i.e. pearl white or satin white, Lambo green, etc). We could see some great previous colors return - such as DSOM or other orange. That adds up to 5 additional colors right there.

At first, I thought it might be tough to use up 12 slots, but when I thought about it a bit, one can come up with a 12-slot color palette pretty easily, and still have other interesting colors left off (LRG, e.g.).

I miss having a torch red corvette. I think and of course it depends on what the final car looks like in each color...i want to go back to a torch red corvette..

bright red is a fun happy and believe it or not smiling color for me...

there are other colors Ill consider but black is a color ill pass on next time. Hehhehe...

some might say torch red with a black interior is cliche but im ok with that.

      bright red is just fun.

I've had 4 vettes. None of them red. But I've always said "some day, I'm going to have a red vette". My wife thinks this is my forever, built-in excuse to be able to get another vette - i.e. have to get that red one some day. LOL.

I like Torch Red. Victory Red was another solid one.

Dark Red Metallic Corvettes have always been my favorite.

My first Corvette was a 1968 British Racing Green coupe that I restored in 1975 and painted Polar White (not able to figure how to link to a specific post on this forum - Look at this section C1 Through C6 Fantastic Corvettes-> C1 - C6 Special Pictures, Post 16). I wanted to paint it Rally Red but my wife talked me out of that since we already had a red car, a 1966 Dodge Polara 500 high performance 4 speed hardtop). I kept the 68 for 26 years and the white grew on me, but I still preferred red.

In 2006 I ordered a 2007 Z51 coupe in Monterey Red Metallic (last year for that color), I felt Victory Red was too bright.

In 2016 I added a 2017 Grand Sport Coupe in Long Beach Red Metallic to our garage. Long Beach Red is just slightly darker than Monterey Red. Both cars really pop in bright sun and are hard to photograph as the color changes with lighting conditions.

Still have not found a color I like better on a Corvette than a dark red metallic. If I go for a C8 mid-engine it will be dark metallic red with chrome wheels.

Yes; yes! Cyber Gray Metallic was one of our favorites, and BTW, was the first C7 regular customer car delivered, on Sept. 20, 2013, to our MECF member “Cybervette.” He still has and love it.

While many of us have our favorite colors we would like to see on the ME, seeing is believing. Many times after you've seen a color on the actual sculpted body lines and seeing how shadows and hues are influenced by shapes, you may change your mind.

So while I'm partial to Black, I reserve my final decision until I see the real thing. I don't exclude the possibility of Silver with black accents might be more eye catching than solid Black. I take joy in keeping my black cars pristine, shiny and clean.

It is always the comprehensive package and viewed as a total entity that makes the final decision.

Of course there are those that say all Corvettes must be Red, and they are completely correct in their own mind. I agree with them because you are buying the ME for you and you alone. You are not buying it to please someone else. It must be an extension of yourself.

I wonder if the new paint shop is capable of something like the first picture? I know its not a Vette but only one I could find with that color.

So many cogent points Rfong! The ME is going to look so different from the C7, that even a Torch Red in each will appear to be a somewhat different Torch Red. Couple that with it being extremely likely that there will be two new 2020 “replacement colors,” and I believe about a 2 out of 3 chance that we will see two additional 2020 colors (#’s 11 and # 12), we have a long way to go IMO before choosing our colors.
