Has anyone given any thought to how protect those vulnerable radiators from stone damage?

  • #2
I've wondered about that. Those front ones are very close to the road, and the gaps in the grill quite large. On the C7, the radiator is located way behind the grill opening, offering a lot more protection. Hopefully some of GM's 300,000 miles of testing are on dirt and gravel roads, and through construction zones.

Its a gm design...i feel although an interesting concern...its not something to get to worked up about.

many cars have open radiator designs with no grille.

i think the mustang gt500 comes to mind...

the radiators are set back in the front corners so we should be good to go.

im sure the aftermarket will offer some type of grill and I imagine one variation will even be chromed..(kidding)

I was actually thinking more about snow packing in the front and side vents more than stones...hehehe

A nice well designed after market screen would be of interest to me. If not, I'm sure one could be fabricated to keep the stones and love bugs out.

On a slightly related, and amusing, note: My brother has a Boxster. He just got a recall notice so the dealer can install screens inside the side vents. Apparently people have been throwing lit cigarette butts out the window and they were getting sucked into the vents and causing fires.

          Stupid is as stupid does!

You can actually order different grades with a tighter mesh. Here’s another option. https://www.twpinc.com/wire-mesh-material/aluminum

Contacted Custom Car Grills and he was quite candid about his experience with Corvette Forum...not a happy story. At the present time he has no plans to produce a grill for the C8 given his previous experience at CF. He's a Vette owner and sounded like he'd be happy to supply parts and advice.

Will check your second option, too. Thanks.

Why does that not surprise me? Wonder if he will sell the sheets so we could build our own.

Checked his website and the sheets were maybe $40 or $50 each. Not sure that was the correct size, however seemed reasonable.
