  • Detailed Exhaust System Pictures Thanks to Itomn

Nice up-close pictures of the exhaust system thanks to Itomn at Laguna Seca today. Bottom one thanks to “C8 Jake.” However more Itomn pictures in post # 7.

Awesome close ups John, was wondering what it looked like. Does anyone know if those are the same valves being used in the C7? And are they pretty reliable? I have had issues with other manufacturers valves at 12K miles and were pricey little suckers and difficult to replace.

Looks like the engineers did a better job of isolating the AFM valves from the exhaust heat this time - so hopefully the electrical components in them don't melt during track driving....

daleong, you have hit on a very important point, for there were some who had C7 value failures. GM, astutely noting that through warranty claims and technician reports’, made that significant change for the C8.

So, are those the catastrophic converters bolted to the headers?

Looks like it, with one O2 sensor just upstream and one in the converter itself for each side.

                Heh-heh, "catastrophic converters" indeed.

Thanks for the pics Itomn, did they wonder why you were taking so many detailed shots of the exhaust system? You should have worn a Ford Engineering T-shirt or something.

Yes it looks like they did a good job of bracketing them away from the heat. It even appears there may be enough room to put some heat sink material on the brackets to enable even better cooling so the heat won't transfer through the bracket. I like it and will be modifying the brackets on mine. Thanks Itomn and John. Excellent close ups

Should be interesting how the aftermarket tackles a replacement system!

Yes it will; perhaps strictly a muffler can and different exhaust tips replacements?

That looks like a very unique muffler - I wonder if the left and right exhaust header out flows are mixed in the muffler or kept separate ? Also, the aftermarket guys are going to have their hands full with this baby. Many new and unique parts in the exhaust system, not to mention the ECU re-programming issues.

So true Binger, and while I am thinking they might buy a C8 muffler, cut it apart and see how/what they could do to increase its sound without causing secondary issues, consequently take “their” muffler and offer a bunch of different exhaust tips.

Please someone, black chrome exhaust tips in different shapes!

I can’t tell if the exhaust tips are removable or welded on? Anyone know? I might replace them if that’s not hard to do.

Looking at the pics they appear to be welded on.
