  • I just Placed my C8 Order & It Cost the Same as My 2016 Z06

I just got back from the dealership and placed my order. 3LT, Z51, FE4, ZZ3, E60, etc. It came to $86K. Which is what I paid for my 2016 Z06/Z07 after I got $21k discount. ($107K MSRP). I think C8 will probably out perform the C7 Z06.

As for ground effect, the GM Order WorkBench doesn't even show 5W8 and 5V7. It only has 5VM, but I didn't order it since it is a constraint. WorkBench did show STI for $550 and they were not sure what it is. But I ordered it anyway, hopefully someone will figure out what STI is between now and September 12, it is a LPO and on the build sheet says: "Extension Side".

    Here is my build:

Congrats N4SPEED! Question please about one tiny part of your post, is your sentence, “It only has 5BVM, bit I didn’t over it since it is a constraint.”

I am not seeing 5VM as constrained. Thanks for clarifying.

Thanks John! You are correct! I thought I saw 5VM in "Accessory Ramp-Up Plan". I just checked again, and only 5W8 and 5V7 are on that list.

Considering it is about $5K, I wonder if I should get it now or wait until after market parts become available. I know Caravaggio Corvettes makes good quality CF parts and they cost less than GM.

I have a Caravaggio’s steering wheel on my C7 Z06 and it still receives accolades. I would also look at ACS Composite for your components. They are outstanding, and were a GM OEM before they decided their artistic skills could be well used in designing and making their own products. IMO they have C7 splitters that are nicer than the OEMs.

I am going to look for more ACS Composite products on my C8 (as will several of my friends who likewise were very pleased with their ACS C7 products).

I think it is confusing and they were not sure at the dealership what it is. The description for STI, SJI & S6S is the same "Rocker Panel Extensions". But STI cost $550 while S6S cost $3,420.

Good to know John. I will hold off then and look into ACS or Caravaggio for ground effects when they become available. I might ask them to remove the STI from my build, as I am not sure what exactly that is.

He is right the pricing of discounted c7 z06 s as the excellent vehicle they are does in fact come very close to what a c8 z51 would cost.

for those of our corvette brethren that decide to go that route we can certainly feel good they are getting an amazing sports cars as many of you guys who own them know...

I drove the c7 z06 recently and its a fabulous sports car...

that said the allure of a rear mid engine dct c8 was just a little stronger for about the same money.

                  interesting thread..

Thank you Meldoon! I am very excited! GM has given us a fantastic car! I hope to have it in January barring any constraints.

JB, I agree 100%. C7 Z06 was one of the best driver cars I have ever owned. I LOVED everything about it except the A8 tranny.

I tracked my Z06 on COTA. Back then I also had an Aventador. My lap time was about a second quicker with the Z06 than the Lambo and at the end of the long straight right before turn 12 when braking hard, I felt more planted in Z06 than the Lambo. To be fair, Z06 had Cup2 tires and Aventador is heavy and not necessarily a track car, however, it is 4-wheel drive with 700 HP and cost more than 4 times as much.

I think you are right John. I will cancel the STI. I might add the 5VM since it may take a while for after market CF parts to become available. How long do you think it takes Caravaggio or ACS to make ground effects?

It is hard to predict. First the aftermarkets (AM’s) need to meet with GM for a “measuring party,” in which GM staff provides information to them and the AM’s come armed with every measuring device/tool they need to return home and starting manufacturing (though actually I left out a step in that they are already in this area, doing initial, “artistic/conceptual drawings”).

Then to take those measurements, marry them to their conceptual drawings, then to work with the actual suppliers of raw materials, etc., etc. My worse than swag guess is that we would not see the first of these parts for at least three months from the measuring party (whenever that is), and might be far longer.

As for aftermarket exhausts, they traditionally are out at least six months after the first of the new gen is delivered, sometimes even eight months. For ECU/tuning hackers (said in a positive sense), might it be a year???

N4SPEED, I am having that same issue rattling around my brain, for while I know that aftermarket parts will be coming, some so fantastically beautiful and functional, and with generally a nice savings from OEM, but OEM parts have a warranty, fit perfectly, and will be out many months sooner than aftermarket ones. All things for us to consider/balance.
