  • C8 Z51 Performance Package Top Speed is 184mph

I just found this article on Autoblog that states the Z51 package drops the top end by 10mph to 184mph. My question for the Chevy Team does the High Wing 5ZU take the top speed back up to 194mph? This may make the High Wing option very popular if it helps drag and top end. Hopefully we will know soon.

"The 2020 Chevy Corvette Stingray will hit 194 mph

The Z51 kit adds 400 pounds of downforce and drops the top speed to 184 mph

The 2020 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray will be capable of hitting a top speed of 194 miles per hour in base trim. That's a whole heck of a lot of speed for the 'Vette's $59,995 asking price. That sum will net the buyer the a Corvette 1LT, which comes standard with a 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 490 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque routed through an eight-speed dual clutch transmission.

That same powertrain is bumped to 495 hp and 470 lb-ft with the Z51 Performance Package that includes an otherwise optional Performance exhaust system, and Chevy confirmed to Autoblog that's enough grunt to push a Z51-equipped Corvette C8 to 184 mph. While critics may bemoan the loss of 10 mph at the top end, the Z51's extra 400 pounds of downforce, suspension and brake upgrades and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires will certainly make up for that slight demerit on the road and at the track.

It's also worth noting that the sub-3.0-second 0-60 time quoted for the 2020 Corvette is achieved with the Z51 package, which will run $64,995. The base car will likely be a few tenths slower to 60, so buyers will be able to choose between the slightly quicker acceleration of the Z51 or the 10-mph-higher top speed of the standard car."

Can't answer the OP's question with any certainty, but my guess is no. While we've been told it has less drag than the stock Z51 spoiler, it can't have less drag than no spoiler and still produce all that downforce. And the front splitter produces some additional drag, too.

Reminds me: on my way to the gym this morning, there was a red C7 Z51 with license plate "195 MPH" Probably an exaggeration.

I think this will be another great question for John to ask at the Caravan for Harlan or Tadge to answer. Not that I ever need to go 194mph anyway but just curious. Thanks

Nice point. I should have thought of that one. The lower gear takes the rpm's up and limits the top speed. Thanks Racer86

Oh my god..how can we survive with only a top speed of 184 mph!

Id guess the gearing and the aero combined drop the top speed from a super slippery 194 to a ho hum of 184...

id imagine that humongous dealer installed rear wing might even lower the top speed just a bit more....

plus getting stuff in the trunk could be a real pia..

i never liked wings-and now I have proof..

wings are up to no good.

Are there any tracks in the US that this car could exceed 185 mph at?

I've never personally understood the obsession with top speed. No one actually does it (or shouldn't anyway). It is often limited by the manufacturer. The better your aero for the track (where the stats actually matter ) the worse your top-speed will be all else equal. It's never been a stat I've cared about in the least.

Daytona. The second weekend in April. For $895 you can take your C8 on the Track during the Thursday/ Friday of the Exotic Car Festival of Celebration. Ironically the local Corvette Club has their big Annual that Saturday and why they do not change that date is beyond me. So the big decision for me this next April is ??? Do I want to have four days with the Ferrari/ Lambo guys druelling all over my C8 for four days or The local Corvette Guys. ???

No. At a given HP, as you get much above 150mph small effects on drag have big effects on top speed.

Bigger wing = slower speed due to increased drag.
Wider front tires = slower top speed due to increased drag.
Splitter and side-rocker ground effects = slower top speed due to increased drag.
