  • Is it feasible to manually fold and unfold the mirrors on a daily basis?

One of the main reasons I was thinking about choosing 2LT was the power folding mirrors. To get in my garage having the mirrors folded on entry will make a world of difference. If I pass on 2LT what is your opinion on manually folding them in each day when I enter the garage and manually unfolding them after exiting the garage? It doesn't seem like a huge deal, but looking for opinions. Maybe someone has done similar with another car and can comment.

    Thanks

It would not be much inconvenience if you only had to fold the driver's size mirror. Just open the window. Passenger side could be a bit of a pain, but not out of the question.

Someome tyoed somewhere the mirrors only fold in when in park or neutral...id check that fact before ordering 2LT just to be able to pull into tje garage with folded mirrors...

tjose mirrors extended do approximate the width of tje rear fender air scoops...thats not exactly a bad thing...

tap a foldable mirror on the garage opening and its one thing...tap a rear fender with the garage opening and its quite another...

think of the side mirrors as your curb feelers...

i have a two car garage with one large door and between the cuv and the c8 corvette width I do plan on taking it slow getting in and out ofmtje garage for tje first few weeks.

im sire some older homes with two seperate doors on a two car garage can be even more challenging...

that said...double check to make sure you can push a button and have the mirrors retract if you want them too...just remember those rear fenders air scoops are pretty wide compared to the front fenders when pulling in that tight garage space.

When I designed the new house I wanted three single doors for appearance so did the garage 40' wide with 10' wide doors. I did a 12' ceiling for the lift & one stall 48' deep & 18' wide. Should have gone bigger.

A second lift solve your problem?

Any chance of those with narrow garage door openings of squeezing left as you drive in after pulling in the driver’s mirror, and not having to hand pull in the passenger mirror (we hope)?

Will your C8 be a daily driver? If so then I reckon it won't be long until you're kicking yourself in the chin for not having coughed up the money for the 2LT trim.

If you have to fold them in to enter your garage and you buy a base 1LT you may not have the visibility to even back the car out with the mirrors folded in. The C8 is 2 inches wider than the C7. (5.4 inches longer) I think JB gave the best advice on using your mirrors as gages for entering your garage, you will need them for exiting with limited visibility.

The ELB car demonstrated that the mirrors could be folded and unfolded with the engine off. So maybe the switch is independent of transmission state.

Bob, thank you very much. What you found would be terrific to confirm from the top members of the GM team, so we will ask them at Carlisle next week and NCM 25th in two weeks.

Just added that to my “Question Ask” list.

I've been there before. Inconvenient. But......if you would use the other options in the 2LT package it would be worth it. But just for the mirrors? Not me. I would take the inconvenience over the extra $5000 or so just to get one option I would use. For example. When I was in the process of buying my C7 I considered the 2LT package and there was only one option that appealed to me. The front camera. The rest of the items I wouldn't have used. I have had cars with those options before and never used them.

This is definitely my dilemma in a nutshell. I like some of the 2LT options for sure, but none are essential other than the mirrors.

I think the folding mirrors is a great to have but not a have to have. The entire 5 years I had by C7 I think I may have folded my mirror (not mirrors) in once.

Has a total width dimension been determined that it is wider than the C7 Z06/GS/ZR1? The only statement I recall being made to that issue was that the car was approximately 2 inches wider than a C7 Stingray/Base car. The above Z’s and GS’s are 3+ inches wider than the C7 Base. I have no difficulty entering or exiting my single side garage door with the standard single door opening/door frame, with my C7 Z06. I even need to approach the opening at an angle to clear my splitter at the entry transition. I’m excited about the front end lift feature of the C8 for that reason. I must have a minimum of 4 inches clearance on both sides now and don’t anticipate any need to want my mirrors folded. On the contrary, I would want them fully extended to verify clearances at the door frame on the rest of the body as Zora 69 stated.🤔
