  • 5-spoke trident black wheel

Does anyone know why this wheel is not available except as a second set of wheels?

I wanted black wheels so it looks like unless i want to pay for a 2nd set my only option is the carbon flash with machined edge... I really don't like that machined edge.

We've been puzzling over this before, and to the best of my knowledge nobody has figured out why GM is offering most wheels with the car but two of them as accessories. Just one of those mysteries of life I guess.

My wife and I were split on the wheels, she wanted black, I wanted polished/chrome, of course you know who won! And like you she wasn't thrilled about the machined edge but she can live with edge she thinks and if not, at first tire change she will have them painted. I think having them painted will be far less expensive than an extra set of accessory wheels.

As we know, they have been doing similar for years. Yes, one of those mysteries of life...

What's really odd to me is how the accessory wheels seem to be identical to the factory options save for the paint color. Maybe they've made some of them dealer options to simplify inventory management during the first year or two of C8 sales and will add them as factory options after the initial rush is over.

What would be the best way to get rid of the polished lip? I like the open spoke over the trident spoke but really dislike the polished lip.

Im gojng to spray that polished lip with that peelable black rubbery material..

i bet you it looks good...

if not...ill try a new product one of the corvette vendors should produce is a black rim protector the perfect fit for the entire polished lip...

i like the look of polished lips but prefer all black rims ...god ine little scratch on a black rim is the biggest nothing...just get out the black tocu hp brush on paint and the black lip os as good as new.

do that with a polished lip and you re screwed on repaori g the wheel...

A carbonfiber color to match the rim ...rim protector should be an early product sold by corvette vendors...

they will sell a ton of them...and they are very cheap to make ...

even in all black if mecessary..

Consider buying the car with the no extra cost silver wheels. Then, have your car put on jack stands while you have your wheels removed and powder coated whatever color you want. It won't cost you any more than ordering the extra cost optional factory wheels, and you can get exactly what you want.

Thats exactly what I will be doing.....if the black/polished lip is $495 or more extra over the stock wheels, im just getting the stock wheels and can have them powdercoated ENTIRELY gloss black for 5-6 hundred

And the powder coat will be more durable than any factory paint. When the C7 came out, many with black painted wheels were disappointed when their wheels suffered paint chipping.

When you guys powdercoat your wheels you put your car up on jacks in the garage until the process is complete?

or do you buy and sell an extra set of stock rims? Then remount the tires on the newly powdercoated rims...?

ive heard a lot of unhappy comments on the c8 wheels so they should be quite abundant in the forums second hand...

sadly c7 rims from the grand sport and z06 wont fit...

i think its the lugnut spacing or the size of the bolt ...

i always thought it was fun we could put oem c7 rims on c6 s etc...

thats all coming to an end with the c8..

i m not a huge fan of the c8 wheels but in black with polished lip the premiere vehicle in torch red was pretty sharp..

for $500 ill just order it from the factory...

i do think the rim protector in black trim could work if its as wide as the polished lip..

I have an extra set of wheels/tires for all seasons. I had my factory wheels powder coated during the winter season. I had the best tire shop in my area do the dismount/mount, including removing the TPMS equipment, leaving me with four bare wheels, which I brought to the powdercoater. Then, after the powdercoating was complete, brought the wheels back to the tire shop.

I understand what you have done in the oast..my question suggests would you be putting the car on jack stands or would you be buying a set of take off rims as they became available and powdercoat them...then mount your tires on those newly powdercoated rims?

saving the second set for winter tires ?

not a bad idea at all...

                            not sure what Ill do..

just to throw a ridiculous statement into the mix...i asked this question twice to the product specialist and I really dont believe his answer even after he repeated the answer twice....

the black polished lip rims are not extra cost? I dont believe it and honestly believe $500 is more likely ...

I would only leave the car on jack stands if it were somewhere that I knew was absolutely safe from mishaps.
