  • No Body Color Sides on 2020 Corvette Transparent Roof Panel

We learned today that the transparent roof panel option will not have body color sides as currently depicted on the 2020 Corvette Configurator. Instead, the transparent roof panel will be similar to the transparent roof panel option on the seventh generation Corvette.

Our friends at Chevrolet tell us the transparent roof option will soon be corrected soon in the Configurator. Until that time, we have provided a sample of what the C8 transparent roof panel will look like on the car. The second image is how it’s currently showing in the configurator:

The visible carbon fiber roof panel will continue to feature the body color along the sides just as it has with the seventh generation Corvette.

Three roof panel options are available with the 2020 C8 Corvette Stingray. They are listed in the 2020 Corvette Order Guide as:
    • C2Z Roof panel, visible carbon fiber with body-color surround
    • CC3 Roof panel, transparent, removable
    • CF7 Roof panel, body-color, removable

Additionally, the transparent roof panel can be ordered as a second roof panel in the available “Dual Roof Package” that includes the transparent roof panel and either the visible carbon fiber roof panel or the body-color roof panel. These are listed in the 2020 Corvette Order Guide as:
    • C2M Carbon Fiber Dual Roof Package
    • C2Q Body-Color Dual Roof Package

Apparently the transparent roof won’t have the body colored side panels. Suddenly I’m a lot less interested and a lot more disappointed....

I didnt care for the configurator.

too bad about the transparent roof not having the painted spears although Im doing the standard roof.

the visualizer or configurator I had a hard time seeing it as a real vehicle.

An easy fix if you want it the same color, I've done this on new cars and motorcycles before to make it just how I like it & that's what really only matters ....

I think we may have different ideas of what “easy” means 😂. Not really in my wheelhouse to paint glass roofs or vehicles in general

Personally I like the top w/o the colored sides but it's something that could be fixed easily fixed ...

Good find Jag - i noticed this and thought it was cool they decided to paint the side roof rails on the transparent top... i can see how people would like it both ways.

            Gators2020,
What I meant as easy is taking it to the a body shop before work & picking it up after . I had the filler strips in the roof lines painted on the last few cars . I cant stand a black filler strip with any color except black ...

That totally changes the shape of the car to a certain extent. In a cab forward design you wanna keep that flowing line intact. On a C7 where the hood was long you could already stop that body line right at the A-Pillar hence why it was black and because the cab almost started as new line. That’s a bummer for those who were looking to get the transparent roof panel. I’ve had my heart set on the carbon roof for a long time now so I’m relieved that it doesn’t apply to all. Vinyl wrap to match may be an inexpensive solution.

Thank you very much Jag for providing us this updated information. I too understand that some prefer it one way, others the opposite.

You're welcome! It's the best of both worlds in my opinion. The carbon fiber roof gives you the body color if you like that and the transparent gives you the opposite if you prefer that.

That is interesting i just noticed in the configurator pics that there is a strip of body colored roof ABOVE the windshield area. This doesn't exist on the C7 as the windshield just ends with a plastic frame area that attaches the roof panel. This does cause a bit of an odd look here with the A pillars also being body color, it seems to accentuate the black roof line on the transparent roof more than on the C7. Perhaps there is more that we will find out here when we see the first production cars with the transparent roof.

Nice observation regarding the difference in the C7 and C8 body color A Pillars.

Thanks Jag. I was surprised when the visualizer showed the transparent top with body-colored sides (especially since the order guide did not mention it). Personally, given the body-colored A-pillar and header, I think the sides need to be body colored to keep the lines flowing, so I am somewhat disappointed. But as has been said, its relatively easy to fix (vinyl or paint) so its not a deal breaker.
