  • NCM 25th Anniversary Agenda

Here is the current 25th anniversary agenda. The NCM celebrates all generations so not everything here is C8 related but there may be other items that interest us. I have highlighted anything that pertains to the C8 in red.

Please also note that BGA Plant Tours are available, post # 3, for $500 (tax deductible). Must register as shown in that post. Purchasable for all who are registered for the Caravan and/or the 25th Anniversary event.

$500 BGA Plant Tours are available during the 25th Anniversary celebration; however whether they are available for all attendees or first reserved option is for NCM members is not yet known. Will dig this out tomorrow and re-post here.

At the Michelin NCM Bash in April, GM Bowling Green Corvette Assembly offered a rare opportunity to Museum Lifetime and Spire Society members for an exclusive tour. Branded as “Golden Ticket” tours (as a reference to Willy Wonka and his similarly unique factory tour opportunity), only 100 guests were allowed in the plant to see the new lines, new paint shop, and a few new model vehicles covered in camo.

Once again, the plant will open its doors for two days only, welcoming only 288 enthusiasts Wednesday, August 28 and Thursday, August 29 as part of the Museum’s 25th Anniversary Celebration. The “Silver Ticket” tours will provide guests with a sneak peek of the new plant layout, process improvements, and efficiency changes that were in the works for two years. Guests will have the opportunity to see 2019 7th generation Corvettes being assembled on the line using all new tooling and technology. While there is no guarantee that they will also see the all-new 2020 Corvette Stingray on line as well, there is a strong likelihood.

“We at General Motors recognize that the customer is at the center of everything we do,” said Kai Spande, Plant Manager. “The culture of Chevrolet Corvette is based around the relationships we have with our customers. We truly value the many up-close, one-on-one communication opportunities we have to interact and solicit feedback from them.”

This event is only the second time the plant has officially opened to ‘outsiders’ since it closed for renovations and retooling in June of 2017. Guests on the tour will view never-before seen equipment, observe the process in closer proximity than ever, and be some of the first to see certain additions to the plant, like a section of the all new, state-of-the art, 450,000 square foot paint shop. The paint shop portion of the tour will not be available on future public tours – only on V.I.P. guided tours through the Museum’s Delivery Department.

“We want the loyal supporters of Corvette to be some of the first to see the changes at the plant. Guests will see 2019 7th generation Corvettes being assembled, seeing the build of the car and learning about the improvements that have been made to the processes. These changes have secured the highest quality Corvette to-date, and we’re excited to show off what we’ve done to improve our car for our customers,” added Kai.

Bowling Green Assembly has partnered with the National Corvette Museum to make the tours available to attendees of the 25th Anniversary Celebration for a $500 tax deductible donation per person.

Tours will be approximately 75 minutes in length and will be offered on Wednesday, August 28 and Thursday, August 29 at 8:20am, 8:35am, 8:50am, 9:05am, 9:20am, 11:15am, 11:25am, 11:35am and 1:10pm. Each tour is limited to 15 guests. Guests will be expected to follow normal protocol for plant tours, including a dress code requiring that they wear closed-toe shoes (no sandals or high heels). Cameras, cell phones, electronic devices, backpacks, purses or children under the age of ten will also not be permitted in the facility.

A date for public plant tours to resume has not yet been determined.

Am I correct in presuming the Corvettes on display 8-5 are the C8s?

We all sure hope so! But no confirmation on that yet. Folks were asking earlier where could we have a MECF meet up. How about the first Corvette C8 displayed around the outside perimeter (where they usually do), at a later determined time and place?

Perhaps an update on the fire at the Bedford plant a day or two ago!
