    POLL: Acceleration 500 HP ME

With the approximate center of gravity of the ME’s engine, trans and diff over its rear driving wheels, and with the DCT being another major acceleration enhancer, what do your predict will be the 0-to-60 time of the 2020 ME with its believed-to-have, roughly 500 HP LT1+ motor?

As a reference, while we have seen different acceleration different numbers for the 2014 C7, GM’s announced number for the 460 HP Stingray was 3.9 seconds, with the Z06 being 3.2 for the 7M, Z06, and 2.85 seconds for the 8A, ZR1.

Car and driver tested the 500 hp Porsche GT3 0-60 in 3.0. Now, that car has two items of expected variance from the forthcoming Corvette ME: 3,200 lb (I expect the ME to come in no lighter than 3,300), and a 9k rpm redline, which the ME surely won't have.

Given the traction advantage of the ME over the FE, and the DCT, I wouldn't be shocked at all to see it run 3.2 with 500 hp and the weight I think it will be.

The time GM has announced for my 2015 Z06, 7M was 3.2, but I am betting I have never been able to achieve that due to some rear wheel slippage even when the tires and the pavement is hot.

Let’s hope for a 3.2 (or better), and if so, it would be functionally faster than I have ever been able to achieve.

People who haven't ever driven an ME based car are going to be shocked at how better that platform puts power to the ground. If the ME arrives with 500hp and 3,300 - 3,400 lb weight and a DCT, it'll whip 8 out 10 drivers of the M7 C7 Z06 on the street.

Thanks OnPoint, for I am ready to be shocked, amazed and delighted!

I have never driven a ME, nor been a passenger in one, so lots of new experiences for me (and probably many).

several mags have had the new 911S with 420 BHP do it in 3.1 seconds. The ME should match this. What the ME will loose to the Porsche off the line I think the extra HP will catch it up.

So far, assuming my math is right, the average vote for a 0-to-60 time for the 2020 ME is 3.35* seconds. That would be terrifically fast!

              * This is the average for all who have voted on this point in this entire thread (will be periodically re-calc’d/updated.

If I read correctly, the turbo S and Ferrari Pista run 0 to 60 in approximately 2.6 seconds

since they were testing the ME against the turbo S I would assume they are gunning for comparable performance. The 500 hp. May not get there but I would not be surprised if it will do between three and 3.2 seconds. So I guess I will guess 3.1! May be very optimistic but what the heck

As John stated, the difficulty with the C7 Z06 matching the GM “advertised” 0-60 numbers is primarily based on traction issues. GM’s #’s reflects “ideal” track conditions and properly heated tires, with professional drivers. That is why I’m putting my nickel on less than.3.0. At launch our 650 (crank) horsepower LT4’s certainly are not in their peak power band. So, my logic is that A: 500 hp base on the C8 is a “guesstimate” at this point and there should be less drive train power loss with the ME configuration and weight transfer is an obvious plus. 60-100 mph? Now that is a different matter altogether. IMHO.

That is very useful fvs! If one takes the two lowest HP cars on the chart, they average 562 HP, and yet they go 0-to-60 in an average time of 2.65 seconds. So if all were mathematically adjusted to “just” 500 HP, one might expect about a 0-to-60 time of 2.97 seconds (all else being equal).

Hwoever, in both of those “lowest HP” cars, their torque is less than their HP, whereas in a typical LT1 motor, the TQ and the HP are just about even.

Hence, maybe a mathematical “prediction” of around 2.9 seconds for the 2020 ME.

I wish I had seen the chart before I voted.

I was thinking the same thing. The Turbo S 0-60 is 2.5 sec. and has 580 hp and AWD.

Some say the AWD doesn't add "that" much to the equation especially when compared to a ME but I am not that clear on it.

Please read this. Today Porsche announced that its 2WD new Porsche with 443 HP will do 0-to-60 in 3.5 seconds.

So our average poll results of 3.35 seconds with an projected 500 HP looks pretty darn realistic.

And typically the ME will be better then the 911 rear engine configuration. I’ll bet those numbers from Porsche are conservative as well! I think your selling me on the base 500 hp version being a low 3 second 0-60. As you said earlier it’ll probably accelerate faster than our Z06’s!! Can’t wait to see what the next Z06 brings.
