  • Side rails on transparent roof...

I love the idea of the transparent roof for a lot of reasons. I did NOT spec it on my C7 because the sides were not body color. The C8 visualizer shows them painted the same color as the car. However, found this photo of the C8 and they are black. I have no idea if the photo is of the production transparent roof or not. I have no idea if the visualizer is accurate or not. How in the heck does one know for sure!! Any thoughts...

    From the visualizer...

I believe the second photo you are referring to is not a clear top but the solid carbon fiber top option.

Could be the case... however, the visualizer shows the CF roof having painted sides too.

To make it worse... here is the detail from the order guide...

      Roof panel, body-color, removable
      Roof panel, transparent, removable
Roof panel, visible carbon fiber with body-color surround, removable

They ONLY suggest the carbon fiber has body-color surround but the visualizer shows the transparent as the same.

At this stage we very well may see prototype parts that may never go into production or explained.

The design of the c7 I always admired the side spears on the exposed carbon fiber roof. It might be the black A pillars and black windshield header on the c7 that gave those body colored side spears such a cool floating image where as the c8 has a body colored windshield header and A pillars

seeing both on the c8 as shown including the top view its hard to say which version of the transparent roof I prefer.

from the side view I think i prefer the side painted body color...

i do think having a transparent roof in general expands the visual appearance from inside the cockpit.

that said ill buy a transparent roof down the road to decide which i prefer and i like change over the years of ownership....

The Carbon Fibre in the visualizer also has body colour side rails. I was wondering how this would actually end up being as well because I'm now considering the glass roof.

A little 3M 1080 gloss black wrap would fix that up pretty good. Shouldn't be too hard to apply on the rails either.
And it will be easy enough to take off when you feel like changing it up a bit too.

GM recommended against applying a wrap or tint to its translucent roof — though many did exactly what they wish to. Nice thing about the translucent roof is that it gives a little more head room than the other two C8 roofs, though with all C8’s having +1 head room compared to the C7, might that not be needed except for a few owners?

What is the sun penetration like ikon the visible roof? It’s something I’m considering as well but I live in Florida and well, it’s warm....

If you mean the transparent roof, well, I seem to be in the minority ... I have had transparent roofs on all my Corvettes dating back to the mid-1980s and have never found the heat to be an issue (any more than the heat is already an issue). I live in Cape Canaveral .... personally, I would never order a 'vette without the transparent top.

Where you live that is a consideration, but any who live in your climate choose an aftermarket suction cup of similar underside sun/heat blocking attachment for their warmer weather. I am told it is very effective, one that is easily removed as your cooler weather approaches, and of course easily re-attached later.

Don't opt for the glass top. It will cook your noggin. Nice to have in the evening but it's hot. I live in Florida as well and regret purchasing HT Verts with glass tops. It's nice in our couple months of winter when the high is only 65 for the day though.

The Vert will lower or raise any time you wish with a push of the button. Best of both worlds to protect you from the sun or expose you to it when wanted.

I don't think we can reach too many conclusions based on pre-production cars randomly photographed on the street. These may not represent final configurations at all. That silver car, for example, has holes in the rear facia for mounting a spoiler, but no spoiler in place.

They show overhead views of all the tops in the Playbook and they all have body color along the sides.

When I was 5 years old our next door neighbor bought a brand new Corvette. This was 1953. He had what I believe was a custom plexiglass bubble, and very quickly had the inside painted white, because in the Florida sun the car became a microwave oven.
