I also received an update today, but it was a different number than OP reported for our 22MY, and referred to improved transmission performance, and "other software updates." This is the 2nd I've gotten since July this year with the same number. The July 2023 update, with the same number as today's, referred to "improved update performance." Both of these updates said there may be additional future updates issued under the same number.

This is the 5th update we have received since delivery, and I did have 2 out of the 5 fail on the first attempt. However, on both of those failed 1st attempts, I started the engine, hit the update button with engine running, and it told me to shut down. After that they both installed correctly.

On all updates now, I start the engine and hit the update button with engine running, then shut down as instructed, and they have all been successful.

What was the update number, if you still have it? Thanks.

Below is a shot of my update screen. The update (N23-241010) at the top was downloaded and installed yesterday (9/18/23), and the previous update with the same number was installed this past July.

Perhaps, the last one was an update to the update, but it included a vague reference to improved trans performance.

Thanks Foosh Weird that they'd use the same number on two different updates, even if they are related. That's just bad process. As I've said before, GM really isn't very good at this. They should have poached someone from Tesla to learn how to do it right.

Agreed! Even if it was an update to the previous update with the same number, and they wanted to keep track of updates to updates, they should have used a protocol such as "XXXXX.2".

I made the decision to not do any OTA updates since last December. The car works. The unlikely but still plausible impact is that your car gets bricked from doing an OTA.

The potential upside of OTA updates the last year seems to be miniscule updates that no owner would ever appreciate….

So I say, why even roll the dice….

Especially if you get yout C8 serviced at GM, there should be absolutely no reason to do OTA at all IMO

The problem with not doing the updates, is that we have no idea what the updates are really doing, or how long it will be before being behind on updates might cause a future problem.

GM obviously feels they are necessary, otherwise they could save money by not bothering with them and leaving future problems up to dealers, with increased warranty costs to GM.

After 6 successful updates, I'm very confident in doing them on our car.

Oddly, there IS an update N23-241010A that some people have gotten. No idea if that's the same as the second 241010, or yet another different update. I've gotten 1010A, but neither version of 1010. (???) 1010A says "Updates to the overall vehicle software update process."

As an additional oddity, the July version of our 1010 was for "updates to improve the update process." The 2nd identically-numbered 1010 version I just installed said something about trans performance improvement, and unspecified software enhancements.

I suppose it could be MY differences. Ours is a '22, and I'm guessing you're a '21 since you are Mr. 4000, and my wife is Ms. 5287.

                          Mr. 5000, but yes, still a 2021.

No. Every C8 has an always active AT&T 4G connection that is used to download OTAs. Or you can connect it to your home WiFi connection, in which case the car can use that to download OTAs, but it's not necessary.

If you have a data plan or OnStar, it uses the built-in 4G connection, but neither are necessary to get OTAs.
