  • C8 Stingray High Wing Requires Rear Fascia Removal

Overview: The high wing spoiler is not available in your initial order if you plan to take NCM Delivery because the rear fascia has to removed and GM does not allow the NCM to do this as part of the PDI service. Several additional accessory options are also mentioned in the order guide as not being available with NCM Delivery. However, since these are accessory items, they can be ordered separately and installed after delivery.

    THANK you CorvetteBlogger!

As soon as the C8 Corvette Stingray configurator came available online, many were excited about including the High Wing Spoiler option on their configuration.

According to the 2020 Corvette Order Guide, the High Wing Spoiler is available in Carbon Flash Metallic with the body colors of Arctic White, Black, Shadow Gray Metallic and Torch Red. Both carry the “LPO” accessories designation and the following notation: Not available with (R8C) Corvette Museum Delivery.

We contacted Shane Webb, NCM Delivery Program Manager, to inquire about this and received the following reply:

“The high wing spoiler is an LPO accessory that requires removal of the rear fascia for install which GM does not allow us to do. It is not the spoiler included in the Z51 package.”

Unlike the 2019 ZR1 wings that are attached as part of the PDI (Pre Delivery Inspection) service, the 2020 Stingray High Wing Spoiler is not a simple bolt-on procedure. The 2019 ZR1 comes from the plant with the wing brackets already installed. The 2020 Stingray will not come with the required bracketing hardware installed and will require the removal of the rear fascia for installation of the High Wing Spoiler.

According to the Order Guide, several additional options will also not be available with NCM R8C Delivery. These include the Visible Carbon Fiber Ground Effects, Composite Rockers (molded in color), and 5-Trident-Spoke Black Painted Aluminum Wheels.

The bottom line is that certain LPO options cannot be initially ordered along with NCM R8C Delivery, so keep this in mind if you are set on taking delivery of your new 2020 Corvette at the National Corvette Museum.

Update: I just confirmed that the high wing spoiler uses the same holes as the Z51 spoiler. One can order the Z51 with the spoiler that comes with it, take NCM delivery, then have their dealership or body shop install the high wing spoiler later.

To add it after market will be labor intensive.

A few things that can’t be done at NCM. High wing and visible carbon fiber are important to me. Guess i will have to scratch museum delivery.

You're speaking my language. I'm a carbon fiber...aficionado. Yea...that's the word I'll use to get past the filters...
Also, the high wing is sexy.

Excellent news. Echoing the same process GM did for the C7 which used one machine within the plant (costs over $1M), drilling the identical sizes and spaced hole with all their pre-ZR1 C7 versions.

Imo, it’s too beautiful not to be visible.

This may be a dumb question but here goes:
Does the spoiler ship directly to our dealer or will we have to find a way to get it from the museum to our dealer?

That question is far from dumb, and folks are working to learn that answer at this time, as is the related question, i.e., if I order it but am receiving the car via courtesy delivery program, do I buy my high wing from my local dealer (who is receiving my car directly from BGA).

We have lots of time to get 100% of these questions answered, for regardless of all the rumors floating around (and I am as wanting every detailed resolved as anyone), no orders are going to be matched with the first consensus until about eight weeks away.

If the car is ordered with the high wing, is it installed at the factory or the dealer? If it's at the dealer, do you also receive the Z51 spoiler?

I am around 90% sure I'm doing museum delivery.
I am planning on just getting the Z51 package, then get the ground effects and high wing from a dealer later.
There are a couple of advantages for me, doing this.
If I go with yellow or rapid blue I'll still get the two toned mirrors.
The second advantage I'll get the Z51 spoiler holes from the factory (as opposed to aftermarket drilling holes myself).
Thirdly I get a spare Z51 wing that I can sell.
Also I can have the option of taking the (white) wing in to get it (white part) sprayed body color at the same time I'm getting the engine cover sprayed.

Hopefully the pricing is the same, but I doubt it.

My other color choices are white or black, which dont require the black mirrors and wing

The high wing will be installed by whomever you choose locally to install it. The Z51 packaged cars will arrive with the Z51 spoiler. The process will be to remove the Z51 spoiler, remove the rear fascia, attach the high wing brackets, reinstall the rear fascia, then bolt the high wing spoiler to the brackets. The holes in the rear fascia are the same for the Z51 and high wing spoilers.

                              Excellent process synopsis. Thanks Jag!

I wonder if there might be a plan B, as you earlier asked, the removal of the rear trunk lining, being then able to reach back and underneath to do the above without the PIA of removing the rear fascia.
