  • Targa top ?

Just curious if anyone knows if the top is going to easily installed/ removed by one person or are we going to need two sets of hands to do this ?

If it's like the previous C7, it should be a 1 person job. Can't imagine they would make it such that it requires 2 people. I saw a video clip and it looked similar to the front latch design of the C7..... 2 in the front, one at the rear. Easy to lift out by myself.
3LT Coupe, Z51 Torch Red with two toned Red/black interior. 5VM visible CF ground effects, Carbon Flash wheels, engine appearance package and Carbon Fiber interior trim. Mag Ride control. Red Calipers. VQK Splash Guards. Carbon fiber: Steering wheel, mirrors, High Wing, Door handles & boomerangs; Rear Diffuser with vertical diffuser fins; A Pillar; B Pillar; Rear Hatch Side Vents, as well as top camera surround piece and lower under glass piece; Engine bay surround pieces; and front grill trim.

Maybe the carbon fiber top will weigh less?

In one of the videos they say it's a one man job. Just don't drop it

The C8 may be as the C7 a totally carbon top, when painted? That is much lighter . There is also a VISIBLE carbon top option which is probably the same as painted top. I did see a video from GM where it did say the top is a one man operation showing a single person taking the top off.

It's a one person job. See the below video. Chevy has a bunch of short videos on their YouTube channel talking about different aspects of the car.

One person job easy. I also think the c8 targa is physically smaller than the c7 and c6 s roof...which should make it even easier...

just dont take it off if the cars been baking in the sun without two small hand towels or workout gloves otherwise you ll burn your hands..

remember my suggestion as bare handed with the roof in your hands halfway to the trunk you can really burn your hands badly....and holding on to that roof can be tough...

it only takes one really hot day where the car is sitting out in the sun baking that you decide to take the roof off...and you ll always remember for future liftoffs...(to wear gloves or use two small washcloth sized towels I leave in the trunk for just such days..)

The really hot temperature day thing notwithstanding taking off or putting the roof off is easy ..its like seconds..and its light.

One other thing...never place the targa roof on the car and not immediately lock the roof handles...

i dont care who you are..after placing the roof in place immediately get in the car and turn the three handles...
otherwise you too will invariably join the quite famous “FLYING ROOF CLUB”

                  lol

you havent lived until your driving onto the highway when at around 40 mph your $1000 roof takes off like a kite...slowly lands on the highway behind you like a kite and then cracks into a lot of little pieces ...

all-it takes is one time to forget to pull those three easy handles ...sure you were going to it ...but somehow forgot...and later on drove off..

only to see that thousand dollar kite in your rear view mirror and you start laughing and say holly...xxxx

all kidding aside it could as its landing hurt someone who was behind you as it lands...

always turn those handles right after you place the roof on the targa locks...

i think i went for 17 years before I forgot....I always used to say...I would never not lock those handles after placing the roof in the car...but one day I did...

had to buy a new roof for $900 ...and that was preowned off craigslist locally... i needed it qucik because it was raining the day after I did that flying roof thing and I couldn't go out...lol until I got a new roof,

So true. In Mike Furman’s video on removing and reinstalling the coupe roof, he taught me something that follows what JB just posted, and that is you do the three handles, then when in side, push up above each armies to double check it does not move, and if outside, stand next to the door and try and pull up on it.

Now instinctive that I do both JB’s and Mike’s steps, check and double-check — for a new roof is over $1,500.

                      Roof suggestions/considerations:

After watching that very short GM video, I am guessing that just like the C7’s transparent roof being five pounds more than the other carbon fiber ones, I am guessing that the C7’s transparent roof will similarly weight five pounds more, e.g, if muscle challenged, maybe consider this. And getting it and out with a high wing will make this more challenging — as would loading luggage.

Also by way of a roof caution, if windy, we should not be macho, but instead get a spotter to assist us. I do, and if I am tired at the end of very hot day standing outside at a car show or similar, I always get a spotter.

Having something to cover your hands sounds like a good idea. You will also avoid fingerprints when removing the roof after you just washed the car
