The internal GM stated objective for the ME’s top version is to be the #1 sports car. Not just the # 1 sports car “for the money,” but in terms of its dominant capabilities, i.e.s, it is # 1 compared on the track. While we might have to wait for ZORA, we will not have to wait too long for the 2020 mid engine Corvette being revealed.

So what conjures up something that is a predator? A shark!

Zora Arkus Duntov is the reason they are building this car. The historical significance behind his quest to build one is too important. Hence I believe it will be called a Corvette Zora. The Corvette Stingray, Grand Sport, ZO6, and ZR1 nomenclature will be reserved for the front engined C8 only. Five separate models of the entire Corvette lineup. I also think they will develop a separate hierarchal Zora nomenclature that applies only to the Zora ME.

Stingrays (the animal) are very unique in form - graceful, hydrodynamic, and capable of great speed.

One of the more unusual Stingrays are the Devil Rays... but that name may not be "PC enough" for GM...

Still, for me, a Corvette Devil Ray would be a fine name.

Ultimately, I think that GM will end up naming the ME the Corvette Mako.

I'll just throw out a “something terrific not listed above”, due to its mid-engine historical significance and ties to Corvette design ... Corvair Monza GT.

GM has never used "C#" as the official name for any Corvette. It may unofficially be known as the C8, but the official name of the car will be something else, just as the official name of the C7 when introduced was "StingRay." And now is Stingray, GS, Z06 or ZR-1.

Zora has meaning to the Corvette cognoscenti, but probably doesn't mean anything to the Porsche, Ferrari, et al buyers that GM is trying to attract. And it doesn't really conjur up a performance image to people who don't already know what it means.

I think GM will want to keep it in the traditional Corvette family naming convention. They've used Mako Shark on a show car before but, again, I'm not sure the average sports car buyer will remember that.

GM couldn't trademark just "shark", so that name is highly unlikely.

Manta Ray ties right in with Stingray, tying the new car to the old. And GM trademarked Manta Ray back in 2016, which is a big clue they plan to use it. They haven't, to my knowledge, trademarked Mako Shark.

So Manta Ray gets my vote.

Manta Ray is highly possible but my vote is they could come up with something totally off the wall.

Zora is the only poll option trademarked by GM. Zora was a large influence on the history of the Corvette, and his legacy has been a large influence its the future. Zora sounds both exotic and elegant; one person compared the name to Enzo. I believe that this upcoming vehicle will be known as the Zora, but I am clueless as to what the logo will be.

I will call my car a Corvette, and am completely indifferent as to what other name GM may attach to the new car. As long as it's still a Corvette of course.

Do current C7 owners go around saying "my car's a Stingray". Of course not.
