It doesn't look as if there is an E mode selection. Does this mean there is not the 8 to 4 deactivation, & that EMPG has increased enough that it isn't needed?

  • #2
Cylinder deactivation is automatic in "tour" which is effectively the "E" mode.

The personalized modes are "mymode" and "Z" mode. Mymode is a settable everyday custom mode whereas Z mode is a one time use button. If mymode is set as default then the car will remain at that after shutdown Not so with Z mode.

It's virtually identical to the system and customization available in my Golf R.

So to summarize, you will have Tour, Sport, Track, Weather and Mymode available as defaults, and whatever you want as Z mode requiring a button push.

Curious: if you push the "Zora" button (you know that's what people are going to be calling it), can you get out of that mode without turning the car off? Is it a toggle, so one push turns it on, a second turns it off? Do you need to rotate the mode knob to get out of that mode?

The video didn't explain did it. It would make most sense if were to toggle IMO. For that matter, are the standard modes activated by just turning the knob, or is there a push required as well?
For sure there has to be an "on the fly" way of changing back.

Nearly 100% of my driving in the Golf R is in my custom settings and I'd expect the C8 will be the same.

I think cylinder deactivation is by “Active Fuel Management” (according to the press release) which is GM’s more technological advanced cylinder deactivation that was introduced this year on Silverado trucks. Contrary to what is on our current C7’s that either runs on all 8 cylinders or 4 cylinders upon deactivation, “Active Fuel Management” shuts down individual cylinders based on engine demand. Hopefully this system will be completely transparent when compared with the C7’s “E” mode (which was only found on M7 equipped cars).

And hopefully, like on the A8, it is completely disabled when you put the transmission in "M" mode.

Here's a question - how do the modes affect suspension behaviour? And if so how do they do it? In a non - z51 car?

That's awesome . Have been wondering if we would have to be pushing buttons every time we start the vehicle. Thanks

If it like my C7 base 2LT M7 all it does is change the steering from tour, sport and others.Nothing on the suspension.

We have confirmed that Z mode is push in, hit it again to disable, and you can do this repeat process to your heart’s content without turning the motor on or off.
