  • SCREAMING C8 Stingray Customer Interest

Let’s take this one dealer, who this year sold 6-8 Corvettes (not listing the exact amount so to not-identify the specific dealer) . He was just told his allocation (and I will also change that number slightly to not identify the dealer) is that he will get a total 25, 2020 MY allocations.

Since Thursday, his list has ballooned to over 50 on it now (was less than ten on Wednesday).

GM was so right to getting prepared for a second shift!

I am so glad I put my deposit in with Mike Furman @ Criswell 4 1/2 years ago. WHEW!
2023 Z06: Elkhart Lake Blue, 2-tone blue interior, HTC, Standard Z06 with Z07 aero pkg, CCB’s, 3LZ, E60, every visible carbon fiber option including wheels, Jake Design Pkg. Lifetime, annual contributors, and 25 year NCM members. Home is the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

Congratulations on your forethought. In a similar "whew!" I'm kinda glad I won't be in the market until late in year two or year three, when demand will hopefully have subsided a bit.

It was pretty telling that they decided to add the second shift months before the reveal.

If it’s the dealer I think it is I’m really behind the 8 ball! That means in all likelihood he’s sold them all!

looks like I’ll be calling Mike too!

            John
It sounds as though that dealer who sold so few cars last year and took deposits on 50 cars may not be filling his orders for three to five years.AND, those 50 people who placed an order with that dealer should have joined your forum. If they had done so and read your article going back a year with your warnings of where to and how to place orders with what dealers, would be getting cars sooner and that dealer would not have 50 orders.
Glad I am on the first round with MacMulkin.

Thanks for the info John. So does this mean all dealers should now be aware of their allocations of 2020 C8's? If so, I just may have to bug my dealer and see how things are going.

SO, if they added a second shift and with two (2) shifts= (16) hours per day X 5 Work days in a week = 80 work hours in a week Assuming no overtime .
                80 work hours in a week X 11.5 (Production rate) cars per hour = 920 cars per week MAX = 920 X 52= 47,840 Assuming max production
Does this mean they will be capable of building 47,840 units a year??? Probably not. Maybe 1/2 that the first shift or 23,920 and 50% of first shift 2nd shift or 11,960
                Or 35,880 units a year
WHAT ABOUT THE RIGHT HAND DRIVE CARS THAT WILL BE GOING TO THE BRITS THE ASIANS ( JAPAN AND GINA (CHINA).
OH, DID GM ANNOUNCE THEY HAVE TO FILL THOSE ORDERS BEFORE US ORDERS LOL
If these cars take off anyone who is on a list for a C8 with a dealer that sold 6 to 8 cars last year, may want to be in the firsr four. The rest need to order C9s.

Let us not forget that there is a two week summer vacation and also a two week Christmas/New Year’s vacation to reduce that number; HOWVER, to increase it, they could as they did during the 2014 and 2015 C7 production MY’s, run half time and sometimes full days on Saturdays.

Bottom line, they will produce 40K+ C8’s.

I was in my dealer early last year asking the new car manager if he had any info on the ME. He said no, but had several people ask including a couple of Doctors in town, at which point I knew interest was going to be high & it was time to make a move. Talked to the general manager & put my deposit down insuring his 1st allocation.

between that and john's reassurance I knew it would be "cheap"

I guess everyone who is currently looking at ordering a new GT350, ZL1 or even non-US cars like Supra will think about the new Vette now. Even if you just go for a base-equipment vette it's an insane amount of performance-value
