  • C8 Stingray Unanswered Questions?

I’ll start; why 07/18/19 ? Did we ever get specifics about why GM chose thIs date? It sure seemed as if it was going to have some specific relevance. Of course the moon mission could’ve been any day around this time and they didn’t explicitly say that’s why they chose the date.
Last edited by John; 07-21-2019, 03:26 PM. Reason: Thanks JoeCT for starting this off. I will print/share and we will take it to several C8 events in attempts to get answers (if not answered first here).
    2019 Z06: M7 Coupe: Shadow Gray Metallic
    2016 Sting w/Z51 : M7 Coupe : Night Race Blue

If it works like it does at our place, it was the day the execs weren't all on vacation at the same time.

I'm curious if there was talk of bringing back the NCM delivery and/or the engine build experience.

Maybe 7:18:19 was the Ring time after all considering the base C8 has a 0-60 time of 2.8 sec and a DCT. Not out of the realm of possibility considering the ZR1's Ring time was 7:04. (and the Porsche Turbo S-which was used to benchmark the C8 ran a 7:17).

Nope. No mention of a Hard Top Convertible, No mention of Ordering Date, No mention of Engine Build Experience, But we went to the Moon 50 Years Ago, In case you didn't know that in the last 50 years, they made it very clear.

Unfortunately, GM has grown so large, the dealerships don't really seem to care or know much about the 2020 Stingray. I visited 2 of them today just to possibly get any new information. They are completely CLUELESS. Very Sad. And I live on the Space Coast of Florida. I have a feeling the fallout from all the rocket fuel is the reason they call it the space coast. Because sad to say but the people here in general don't have a clue.

Here's my "unanswered question"..... Who put the 'Reveal' program together and who did they think their audience was??? In my opinion, they knew absolutely NOTHING about the Corvette and its existing market. Who did they think was staying up late to watch it streamed on their computer???? Millenials, Porsche owners, or owners of other exotic sports cars???.... heck no! They were died in the wool Corvette fans. It was nice that they had some old gifted NASA folks give really nice talks BUT it really had nothing to do with the car nor did it do anything for the audience. You know they could have done a nice 'heart felt' tribute to our military and first responders and then move on to product.

I got a 'kick' out of the camera shots of the 'influencers' in the audience that were invited.... Were they NFL players or rap celebrities??? They didn't appear to be able to fit into a Corvette even if the door and seat was removed.

Tadge and his crew did a good job but only had time to gloss over the high points of the car, which I thought was to be the 'star of the show'.

I was glad to see the 'vert' was flashed a couple of times at the end.

With respect to the car itself, for me it was rather anti-climatic in that the various renderings (especially those by FVS) were absolutely DEAD ON! What a GREAT job. I've enjoyed 'em for the past year + and now appreciate them even more. Unfortunately (or fortunately) there were no surprises. Pretty much everything had been leaked before but the GPS driven 'front end lift system' was a new very welcome spin. I was a bit sorry to hear 495HP. 500HP would have sounded sooo much better.

The $60K base will translate to something in the neighborhood of $80K for a Z51 coupe with the 3LT interior and lift kit and a few other trim options, in my opinion. The vert will be closer to $90K similarly equipped. All okay with me. Can't wait to see it live when the 'road show' comes to town. Now let the rumors and speculation regarding the Z06 begin.....

In the mean time.... I don't think anyone will be running around bragging about the smashing 'Reveal' format....

I agree with tooold2race. Wasted my time with Space Programs, History of the Corvette, 250 of the biggest fans are there and most know all of it. There were three z06 owners and three Stingray owners at my house waiting to SEE the C8. I wanted Facts not a commercial. And I wanted to see a convertable.

Oh, most likely they will bring back the NCM delivery after the reveal, as the plant tours had been closed to the public till now

Someone at the bash reported being told it was when all the execs were available. Nothing more meaningful.

If that were the case, then why not on the 20th, when the actual moon landing took place?

The 1LT doesn't have power lumbar or side bolster adjustment. Are they adjustable manually? If you get a 1LT with the optional competition seats (which I think have power adjustments in the 2LT and 3LT), does that seat have power adjustments, manual, or none?

Asked in another thread: is there a glass window between the passenger and engine compartments? (I think the answer HAS to be yes.)

I’m curious what the side mirror to side mirror dimension is. The body specs are 3” wider vs a C7. Does that mean the mirror to mirror dimension is wider? I‘m kinda tight now.

I'm going to agree with tooold and JP that the whole thing was badly conceived and executed. Embarrassing preshow followed by banging on about an extremely tenuous connection to the Apollo space program. Perhaps their target demographic is really us boomers? With whom else would that strike a chord? It came across to me as a little desperate and unnecessary. The car and it's team aren't good enough?

When the car was finally revealed, we got badly directed camera angles often blocked by the presenter.

(sorry to John and all who were there. I'm sure it was quite different for you. I'm talking about the livestream).

Why West coast? Why 11:00 pm EST? No mention of production schedule even though the very next day Mark R was able to state it in his Bloomberg interview. No mention of convertible despite showing a teaser shot.

All that being said, it's water under the bridge now. I haven't seen anything to make me regret my decision to put my money down 18 months ago

ps. Note to Mary Barry. While you are doing your reorg of GM have a good hard look at your marketing dept.
