  • Corvette C8 Best ways to prevent from being stolen

Hi all quick question... I am picking up my new C8 I ordered in roughly 2 months and want to know what steps I need to take to prevent it from being stolen.

I currently own a Dodge Charger Scatpack and making the switch to the Vettte, and had my Charger stolen not to long ago by the thieves programming a new key. I had the dealer lock my RF Transmitter so no new keys can ever be programmed, is this something I should be doing on my C8??

Any info helps, I just want to make sure I am taking every possible precaution. Thanks in advance!!!

Terrible that happened to you. Unfortunately, if someone wants it bad enough they know how to get it. Insurance keeps me from worrying about it.

Sounds like a Faraday cage for the fob. Probably wrap the fob in aluminum foil and get the same result. So if they are sitting nearby, what's to stop them from getting your frequency when you unlock and start your car?

Unfortunately if someone wants your ride bad enough, they will find a way to steal it. I had a security system, and LoJack on my Yukon Denali Years ago, and from the security cameras that caught the theft, someone towed it away..
Thieves are also using those $50 apple tags. They put one on your vehicle and track it on their phone and find out where you live, etc.

Look into a company called Ravelco. I had someone come to my home, I think he is out of NY or PA, anyways took him and his partner around 4hrs to install it. I have it on my Trackhawk.
It’s a 16 prong pin that you have to have plugged in or the vehicle won’t start. It’s more or less a kill switch. No one has beaten their device or have they had a vehicle stolen with it installed. It’s also hidden so very difficult to detect. Good luck.

What others have said. Also, if you subscribe to Onstar they can track and shut off the vehicle if it’s ever stolen.

German Shepard in the drivers seat(windows cracked open) while you are away from it. Just kidding, not a nice thing to do to a pet. But the idea will prevent theft.

OnStar can be disabled by a thief in less than a few mins. Plus they(thieves/hackers) are hacking the apps that are associated with that said vehicle.
Plus you have to pay a monthly fee?

Or a Belgian Malinois. Watch some YouTube videos on this breed and see how well they protect the owner. My wife wants one bad..

Probably not. I recall a story where someone left a big dog shepard, doberman, something like that) in the car and came back to find the dog gone and a note in the car: "We liked the dog so we took it. You can keep the car."

Install a Soler throttle controller, and when you leave the car use the phone app to completely disable the gas pedal. Won't keep them from towing the car away, though.

Or, move to a better location?

IGLA security systems is very popular with the TRX crowd. I’m actually considering it myself.

The short answer is no, you really shouldn't worry about it. If they want it bad enough, they will just tow it. Nobody is scanning codes or programming a new key for this car. GM's encryption would be child's play for the NSA, but nobody else could do it. That said, anybody can tow it.

Was a joke. But that would suck too.
