  • C8 Stingray Special Edition For 2020 Model Year

Will the 2020 Stingray mid engine C8 have a special edition? This been publicly wondered by quite a few, as the first year C7’s had one. Might that be a possibility, for there are some historical and other C7 factors that could if repeated, result in a first year ME special edition?

*Most importantly to support this possibility, is that there was first year, 2014 C7 called the “Premiere Edition.” Thanks to CorvetteBlogger, we have this 2013 article about it.

The 500 Premiere Edition Corvette Stingray Coupes are all Laguna Blue metallic tintcoat with the 3LT Brownstone suede interior. The Corvettes featured the suede-wrapped interior trim and carbon fiber packages. Each of the Coupes are equipped with the Z51 Performance Package and also include Magnetic Selective Ride Control, the variable tuned Performance Exhaust system and the visible carbon fiber roof.

The Premiere Edition also features a bevy of accessories which also serves to showcase some of the customizing of the Stingray available through the Genuine Corvette Accessories catalog. Featured on the 2014 Corvette Stingray Premiere Edition is the black “stinger” hood stripe, Stingray interior sill plates and wheel caps, and custom Corvette branded luggage from Thule.

In addition to the 500 Premiere coupes, all but one of which only came with the 7-speed automatic, there were also 500 Premiere convertibles which all had the 6-speed automatic. They all came in Lime Rock Green.

*All 1,000 Premieres had special and unique wheels, e.g., the only wheel available for every one of the 2014 Stingray Premiere Editions, and IMO, they were outstanding looking.

So there was a first year special edition C7, but are there any other clues that might indicate that there could be a special edition C8? Perhaps not so coincidentally, there appears to be a unique wheel that appears to be available for the C8 special edition.

First a touch of C8 wheel background info based on the leaked Jalopnik specs. If they are correct, there remains only one wheel we have not seen yet on hundreds and hundreds of ME spy pictures; additionally that missing wheel’s description is unique and different from the five different C8 wheels we have seen in two ways (just like the C7’s Premiere Edition had wheels different from all other 2014’s).

The many-times-seen wheels in hundreds of ME spy pictures are either “5-Open Spoke” or “5-Trident Spoke.” Yet there is this one outlier listed in the Jalopnik leaked specs, a unique wheel named “PerformancePewter 5-Open Spoke” wheels. They are listed as LPO wheels just as were the wheels on the C7’s Premiere Edition. Clearly, we know what the word pewter refers to, but what about the unique word “performance?” Is this a typo, a mistake, or is this wheel different — perhaps a curved-spoke wheel as uniquely was the 2014 Premieres’ wheels?

*Not coincidentally the wheel on the 2014 Premiere Editions were also LPO accessory wheels, and were the only wheels available for that special edition.

If there were a special edition first year C8, and if it were to again have a unique wheel such as the C7’s special edition, might the pewter wheels lead us to further guessing as to whether the Special Edition could be of a color coordinated with that pewter colored wheel? And even more of a stretch, as the 2014 Premiere coupe came in Laguna Blue, a first year color, and the 2014 Premiere convertible also came in a first year color, Lime Rock Green, might a C8 also come in a first year color and what would match better than Zeus Bronze Metallic with that Pewter colored wheel?

Lastly, if there were a first year C8 Stingray special edition, might it too be called a “Premiere Edition?”

All special editions, if there were such, might only be HT convertibles.

Would be a smart move by corvette marketing. Fully loaded spyders in a special color with special wheels etc...

value price the loaded c8 s would be a great way to start the launch edition.. load the c8 up and just drop the five grand upcharge on the c8...

the retractable hard top will be in huge demand especially if available at launch...

        111 grand msrp?

            7 speed automatic?

Regarding the wheels, to me "Performance Pewter" sounds like the name of a color, nothing more. I see that as the same as the open 5 spoke, just a unique color. Which might be unique to a special edition.

Btw did you get the luggage and if so was it in black or kalahari?

was the fitted luggage a smart marketing move in your opinion...?

will GM offer up a launch edition luggage set or was that a one and done type marketing effort?

sure its not as pressing a question as hp or weight yet we will certainly have a pleathera of talking points that should last us for quite some time...

new generation of corvette launches are a Harlan specialty..

well done and we havent even started yet..

I didn't do the Premier, I knew I wanted Kalahari, and although our last three have been 1LTs, I wanted the full dash treatment in Kalahari so opted for 3LT. I have to say it really spoils you and doubt if I can now settle for less. I didn't do the luggage, not sure of the quality but like the idea. I have a good friend that manufactures nylon gun cases, gear bags, and related items, and may have him make some with custom embroidering.

One of the interior flaws I have with the Corvettes is the mis matched interiors when ordering other than a black interior. I just do not get the black with a color. If you order a color with other manufacturers your car's interior is one color. It looks better . I have said it before in an LT1 you get colored seats with the rest of the interior black. Looks like a mistake. That lime Rock Green with Kalahari is a beautiful car.

Interesting that we have different views, for I really like the black and another color.

So many fabulous choices.....so many different looks.

                            Real winners...

my personal preference for interiors is black yet one day at my corvette dealer i saw a white grand sport, with grey interior , grey grand sport hash tags and chrome rims. To round out the difference the black vents were all factory painted white to match the paint...

although i prefered the rear tailight vents to be black.....that uniquely optioned vehicle caught my eye....

thats what is so great we can all pretty much tailor out the corvettes the way we like and if the factory cant oblige the aftermarket is always ready

who is chompjng at the bit for tomorrows reveal? I see Johns all excited and rightfully so!

Going to see the c8 first hand...

johns not the man who knows the man...

                            Johns is the man!

Had I bought in 2014, that would have been my choice. If it had still been available in 2015, choosing between LRG and DSOM would have been really, really hard.
