  • Unexpected Front Lift Behavior

My 2023 C8 HTC did something surprising and annoying recently.I backed her out of the garage to wash her. After 2 bucket washing, blow drying, and detailing, I headed out to cruise the neighborhood and get rid of any residual moisture.

My c8 has front lift. my first saved entry was my driveway location. I’ve been in and out of the driveway maybe 2 dozen times and the the front lift always functioned as expected. this time though, when heading out after the wash, It didn’t raise. unfortunately, I didn’t notice the lack of DIC message and scraped pulling out of the driveway. Iight scrape. No noticeable damage thankfully, but what the heck!!!

When approaching my driveway after my drive, the front end lifted ss expect.

Not a fan of the lack of a “front end is raised” message. The DIC tells me when it’s raising and when it’s lowering, but if you miss that message there isn’t any way to determine the current state. I think it would be nice if the DIC displayed a message the entire time the front is raised.
Unlike the HTC switch that you pull up and hold to raise the top and push down and hold to lower, the front lift switch is both pushed to raise when the front end is down and pushed to lower when the front end is up. Is it raised? Is it lowered? No way to tell without pushing the switch.

Note to self…..keep an eye on the DIC for front lift messages!

Has anyone else experience erratic front lift behavior?
Does anyone else find the front lift switch and/or message lacking?
Does anyone else think a persistent front lift is raised message would be beneficial?
How are suggestions sent to Chevrolet?

I have a 2021 and the DIC message stays on the whole time the front stays lifted. I don't have any answer as to why yours wouldn't.

Maybe you were close enough to the end of the driveway when washing the car that moving it after that didn't cross the threshold distance for recognizing the location? Did the front end raise when you moved the car into position to wash it? If so, it would have lowered again when you shut it off. It might not know it has to raise again if it already raised up once.

Like harm I have a 2021 and the raised indication remains after the “raising due to location” verbiage goes away. If I restart my car in a location where it was raised when I shut down, it usually raises after starting. I haven’t paid enough attention to know if that is always the case.

On my '23 the indicator light remains on the entire time it's raised. It raises when I approach my driveway, and stays raised until I hit 27mph or so (the exact speed is in the manual but IIRC it's about that). Even though I have a very long driveway I don't normally exceed 27mph on my way from the street to the garage, so it remains raised after shutting the vehicle off and restarting it until I hit that magic 27mph. GL.

I think they fixed the leaking front lift reservoir cap in 2021, but you may want to check the cap and your reservoir level.

            https://www.midenginecorvetteforum.c...front-lift-cap

This video will show you how to remove the trim panels:

same as many here, on my '23 the light stays lit while up even after the message finishes. it lowers when I shut the vehicle off, manually hitting the button once out of the driveway, or after exceeding the speed at which it auto lowers. When lowering I get the message, and the arrow shows down. I thought there was a flashing but it has been two months due to winter.

It is “about that”, the magic number is 24mph

The lift memory depends on the GPS built into the car to know its location. If for some reason, signal was blocked or, for some other reason, the GPS had not yet synced in on enough satellites to calculate your location, the car did not know it was at a place where the lift was supposed to activate. On your return trip, the GPS was functioning properly, so the lift activated at your driveway.

I have had various GPS circuits built into Garmins, Uniden radar detectors, and even built in car nav systems where the GPS function did not become active until I had driven a half mile or more. I just attributed it to cloud cover or other such reasons blocking satellites, and therefore a delay in picking up the minimum number of satellites necessary to calculate a precise location.

                    Daaaah. Old eyes, I guess.
Until pointed out, I had not seen the font lift icon, only the front lift messages. My bad. Always nice to be able to demonstrate ones ignorance to a large audience. :-(

That still doesn't explain why the front end didn't lift when starting after washing. I've started the c8 and shut it off multiple times in the driveway. It always raises on start due to the driveway location.

Again, apologies for waste you time with my rant on the lack of a is raised indicator. my bad.

no apologies, but lots of respect to check, verify, and own it. if I were a betting person I would bet you are not the only one experiencing this and others will learn from this thread (so no time wasting). This forced me to check my own understanding and I appreciate that trust but verify approach.

I have learned so much that seems obvious after the fact but these machines have a lot going on and we are often excited while in them. I think it is fair to not know every single light and ding and doohickey at all times.

your modesty is inspiring. do not ever change that please 🙏
