  • 12 Colors of the C8 Revealed on Keepsake Coins

It was a typical day at work until I received my mail late this afternoon. A package with the return address of “Chevrolet, 100 Renaissance Center, Detroit, Michigan” that included the C8 logo next to the address was sitting atop the stack of mail. When I saw it, the rest of the mail didn’t matter even though I had no idea what might be in the package. Of course, I quickly opened the package and was excited about what I saw inside…a limited-edition 2020 Corvette coin with the C8 logo on one side and Zora Arkus-Duntov on the other!

I took a few photos of the coin and the card titled “A Special Gift for You” that came with it. You can see that the card includes the collage from this morning’s C8 color teaser video release on one side and a note on the other. As I started to write a post about the coin on social media, I quoted the following from the card: “We’re delighted to present you with this limited-edition keepsake coin. Each coin is emblazoned on the front with the likeness of Zora Arkus-Duntov, considered the ‘father of the Corvette,’ and the new crossed-flags logo on the back. Each is ringed by one of the 12 rich exterior paint colors available on the Next Generation Corvette. Your coin features Blade Silver Metallic.”

The first thing that struck me was that the image on the front of the coin was the same one that I had seen earlier in the day in the teaser video. But then I chuckled when I realized that I had initially missed the statement that the coin was “ringed by one of the 12 rich exterior paint colors available on the Next Generation Corvette.”

I would like to think that when one chooses the color of their C8 ZORA that the corresponding coin comes with the car. That would be a nice touch.

I like your thinking Itomn! That would be good marketing practice.

Wow, wonder if others will be getting those so we can see the 12 color line-up?

Perhaps they will be given out by those dealers who have paid for the special C8 visit display at their dealerships? At 7.18.19 to attendees, and/or as Itomn noted, when you buy one in its color?

Excellent idea Itomn! Sometimes it's the little touches that really make the experience special.

IMO..........I just realized almost everything I write here is IMO..............Anyway!!! It's as if GM is taking a totally new approach to marketing this vehicle. More reserved, refined, classy, and TBH I think the entire reason for this approach is in homage to Zora. I know it may not be brazen YET for a car that is developed on the racetrack... BUT we know Zora was about performance, racing, track, exhilaration, and passion. As Corvette owners I think we all feel that when we step into our Corvette (whichever generation it may be). This is truly about his vision being realized and all the benefits that come with the biggest transformation to the car since its birth. Although not literally happening...this approach gives me goose bumps. Nothing like the C7 and rightly so GM.

Im hoping that GM will follow suit with a number of other premium brands as far as enhancing the ownership experience starting with the purchase. The customization process should have specialists (at signature Corvette dealers) Spec-ing the car will be allot more engaging and interactive not just sitting with any sales person ticking off boxes. I envision a section dedicated to Corvette, various seat options, leather and paint swatches and a seating area to configure your car in comfort. Perhaps this is what comes with the cost of becoming a signature dealer? Once your order is submitted and approved status perhaps that's when they send you some swag like the coin in the color you selected along with some customized collateral of all your specs and color selections printed in a brochure. This will not only keep you engaged but excited as you wait for your build.

Now is their opportunity to re-invent the corvette brand. A true halo car, high performance, premium white glove experience at an affordable price point. This will elevate the brand to be more in-line with Porsche and Aston. That is exactly what will attract a younger buyer.

They should issue a token coin with actual value, such as the MSRP of a base C8. Corvette enthusiasts could acquire them as a hedge against future price escalation.

                            Only kidding, of course.
